Life and Work with Ryann Kipping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryann Kipping.

Ryann, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been interested in owning my own business and working with women who are pregnant ever since I started dietetic school. Being a new dietitian, I was always taught I needed 2-years of clinical experience after on top of the clinical hours in my internship before going into any other field in dietetics. Well, clinical nutrition wasn’t where my heart was. My passion is in preventative healthcare which led me to my start in community nutrition. While my goal of owning my own practice was still at the top of my mind, I began to build it as a side hustle while working full-time in a clinic counseling pregnant and breastfeeding women. After almost two years of working in the clinic, I decided it was time to take the leap into the world of full-time entrepreneurship. I felt it was necessary to give it my all if I wanted to live the dream I was truly striving for. Now, I’m so grateful I listened to my inner self, the sky is the limit with creativity, how many people I can help, who I can help, and how I can help them! With the age of virtual businesses just now blossoming, I’m happy to be at the forefront of providing quality nutrition information to what I consider the population who needs it the most.

Ryann is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Lactation Educator Counselor. She is the founder of The Prenatal Nutritionist (@prenatalnutritionist) where she helps women who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or recently postpartum reach optimum health during these significant and emotional periods of life. Aside from one on one nutrition counseling, Ryann is a nutrition writer and menu developer. She is currently attending San Diego State University to get her Masters in Public Health and dreams to not only change the health of individuals but also make a big impact across communities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In dietetics school, they do not teach business skills, unfortunately. Upon starting this journey, I listened to countless webinars, podcasts, books, and started following people who I aspired to be like in business (I still do). I’ve made plenty of mistakes and encountered so many “lesson learned” type situations. There are a lot of ups and downs as an entrepreneur no matter what field you are in. I just recently joined a mastermind group and that has been an amazing avenue to connect and build relationships with like-minded women. My advice is to soak in all the knowledge you can and understand everything is not going to be perfect or magical when you first start out.

Please tell us about The Prenatal Nutritionist.
I offer a virtual nutrition program for women who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant or recently postpartum. It’s designed to start at the core of food choices and take you all the way through to your surroundings; a truly holistic approach to build a healthy lifestyle for women and their babies.

I specialize in prenatal nutrition because I truly believe prenatal nutrition is the foundation of life. There is research out there that suggests what a woman eats during her pregnancy may even affect the health of her grandchildren. My role in this journey is to build confidence in women that they are properly nourishing their baby. I am often a “myth buster” and support system through all the challenges that pregnancy brings.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I grew up with health-conscious parents that strongly emphasized academics, independence, and for lack of a better word hustle. I learned early in life that anything worth having you will have to work for. I think my “can do” attitude, positivity, and passion has led me to where I am today. Not to mention the immense amount of support, love, and motivation those close to me have supplied.
