Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cooper.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I used to be the skinny-fat girl who would only venture to the cardio section of the workout area. It took a lot for me to muster up the courage and finally face the weight room. Once I started becoming familiar with resistance training, I developed more confidence and a willingness to push my limits.
Fitness became a part of my lifestyle. The question wasn’t “Am I going to workout today?” It became, “When am I going to work out?” Years later, I found myself to be in a good position mentally and physically to pursue my desire to compete as a Bikini Bodybuilder. My passion for Heath and Wellness fuels my desire to teach others that their dreams CAN become a reality so long as they learn dedication and commit to themselves.
Has it been a smooth road?
We are our own worst critics. Whether you are the most positive, compassionate person or a Debbie Downer – we tell ourselves that we aren’t good enough. You need to build a strong support group around yourself to get you through these limiting beliefs. Life is not easy and, to be honest, the things we want most require more effort. That’s what makes them worth it in the end! Stay true to yourself and seek guidance from those who have gone through the struggles before. More often than not they are eager to share their journey for others to learn from.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am completing my Nutrition certification to help women and men find balance in their daily habits. I have tried many different types of diet plans but learning flexible dieting and transitioning into intuitive eating has given me the most success in my personal goals. Most people struggle with finding the right balance – they tend to go too extreme into a diet and then binge because they’ve been too restrictive. I coach people in learning how to listen to their bodies and use food as fuel to help us thrive in our daily lives!
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women are leaders and can accomplish whatever they set their minds to. There is no one size fits all, but I think most women tend to be very skillful in relationship management and being the voice of reason, especially when it comes to executive decisions.
