Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Marie.
Taylor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started over 14 years ago with a passion for understanding the “why” behind certain areas of the beauty industry. In this journey, I went through beauty school eight years ago and now have a degree in beauty health and management with a minor in organizational communications. My passion for transformations only grew stronger, which lead me to work for over five hair extension manufactures.
Over the past seven years, I have developed education, built education teams, managed distributors, sales reps and have maintained a full clientele working behind the chair.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a journey, with everything that I have had sacrificed such as friends, family members, my marriage and time with my son it has been a battle, I had to remember why I started and remind my self daily. My biggest battle has been women in this industry who felt intimated by my knowledge and passion. I am not better than anyone, but this fueled my passion for education to help other stylists never feel the way I have at certain times in my career.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in hair extensions, blonding, and transformations. I would say the one thing that sets me apart is my transparency with my clients for long term goals, not the short term that could potentially compromise the integrity of the natural hair.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I would say that the way people treated me. Being picked on and body shamed, felt inadequate from my family has made me who I am today.
