Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Merritt.
Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Spencer, and we have two kiddos — Marlie and Jax. I launched my website and blog to connect with other mom’s and share my experiences and expertise as a mother, trainer, and nutrition.
I made the hard decision to leave my full-time job — as the General Manager of TITLE Boxing Club — to be a stay a home mom while continuing to pursue my passion for training, educating and “mom-ing.” For me, my health is a top priority and my goal is to help everyone find that same passion and balance for their own health and wellness. It takes a village to raise little ones, but together, we can do anything! The amount of information out there can be super overwhelming in regards to parenthood, nutrition, and fitness. I want “Sweaty as a Mother” to be a place where people can come to read about my experiences, try my workouts, and enjoy my delicious healthy recipes.
A little bit about my background — I graduated from DePaul University with a BS in Public Health and Health Education. I am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and have many specialties including; sports and fitness nutrition, pre/post-natal and weight-loss. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease when I was 18 years old, and have lived a gluten-free life ever since. I am currently training a few clients and an On-Demand Trainer for TITLE Boxing Club!
I am working on an eight-week at home workout program to help people find a fun and effective fitness routine without even leaving their home. So be on the lookout!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said it has been a “smooth road” balancing being a stay at home mom (SAHM) and starting my online business. It can be overwhelming to be in transition. For me, going from a full-time working mom, to now a SAHM, starting my website/blog, was harder than I thought. I was having an identity crisis and at first, I felt I made the wrong decision. It can be hard to make a simple decision sometimes when you are overwhelmed. But, if you are pursuing your passion and working towards something that you have dreamed about your whole life, you are doing the right thing. It is not easy, but if you continue to give it your 110%, it will come. I may not be exactly where I want to be, but I am feeling closer to it every day and am beginning to welcome transitions because as their words say, they help us transition to the place we want to be. Stick with it and don’t give up!
Please tell us about Sweaty as a Mother.
For me, my health is a top priority and my goal is to help everyone find that same passion and balance for their own health and wellness. It takes a village to raise little ones, but together we can do anything! The amount of information out there can be super overwhelming in regards to parenthood, nutrition, and fitness. That is why I started “Sweaty as a Mother” so it can be a place where people can come to read about my experiences, do my workouts, and try out my simple healthy recipes.
I am a certified personal trainer specializing in pre/postnatal fitness and sports and fitness nutrition. I am also a mom of two little ones (age 2 and 9 months) and I want to keep it real and not glamorize motherhood and fitness. It is a constant struggle and takes a lot of adjusting trying to balance being a mom and taking care of yourself and your family! I share workout videos with my 2-year-old, who loves to train with me, and also workouts wearing my 9-month-old to show that it is possible. It may not be your best workout, but it all adds up.
I also am an on-demand trainer for TITLE Boxing Club, and I am so proud to be part of this because we are reaching those who can’t get into one of the amazing clubs. It is so hard as a mom to leave the house and now anyone can download the app and get to workout with me and the other talented trainers.
People have told me that they appreciate my honesty about everything I talk about and sharing not only my victories and tips but also sharing my failures and lows. I promise to continue to give my 110% and hope to connect with others out there that are needing inspiration and help with finding a healthy balance for fitness.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I feel like my parents did a great job of exposing me to sports and allowed me to pick what I liked and supported me along the way. I am grateful that they never pressured me to do anything I didn’t want to do. They raised me to want to succeed on my own for myself and not because I was “scared” or “afraid” of what they would do if I failed.
