Tenley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was that girl that bought ever skin care item from the drug store when I was little. I never cared for makeup much, just skin care. It wasn’t until collage when I was in nursing school that I really started to look and study ingredients on skin care labels. Then, I started to notice a trend in my older patients, over stimulation with harsh chemicals in their skin care. My older patients skin was so thin and over stimulated by bleaching agents and not using the appropriate skin care. I wanted to catch my generation and educate them on this now before it got worse. Also, as a cosmetic nurse, I need something clean and gentle enough to put on my patient’s skins after procedures such as laser and chemical peels. I developed Starr Clinical Skincare to meet the needs of every patient of mine. This line is for everyone and every skin type.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been a bumpy road for me, but always a happy one because I knew this is what I really wanted to do so I pushed through it. My advice is don’t listen to others advice listen to you, your heart because that’s what drives you to success. Many people have already approached me about buying or rebranding this formula and it has been a hard decision to say no and keep it real and simple. It’s hard not to be influenced by others or what you have seen in the media or online. Trust me, if you trust yourself, you will always come out the “happy one.”

I am currently working at a Medical Spa in Westlake, Ca. I love my job the majority of my patients I see is for skin care long term goals. I do a lot of anti-aging procedures including Botox, skin tightening, micro needling, peels, and lasers. My skin care line is my baby and I take skin care products very seriously including others that are not mine. Developing Starr Clinical Skin Care has made me an even better provider to my patients because I know their skincare is top quality with natural plant-based ingredients.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes, my father is a Plastic Surgeon who specializes in anti-aging. This played a major decision making for my future plans. But I think the only reason why it really did make a big impact on me is because of a few things: I know my father loved his job, he loved helping people, he took the time( and still does) to help me and he always helps with a positive attitude!
