Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish.
Trish, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am part of an 8-piece Reggae Band based out of San Diego.
We started out touring with the amazing (and also SD native!) Tribal Seeds. Our actively touring lifestyle has taken us all around the U.S and to a few amazing countries beyond that.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a musician on and off of tour, in general, has its ups and downs. The band and I believe in equality in every way. We all get paid the same – and even after 5 years of a straight grind – it isn’t much at all! We’re all struggling to pay rent every month and just get by. But the love of music and our need to please and entertain people sure makes up for it.
My advice for women who are just starting their journey is to not get disheartened by others. If you have a gut feeling: FOLLOW IT! If you think it’s time for a new venture: DO IT! No one is going to love you the way you are capable of loving yourself. So spoil YOU! Love YOU! Nurture YOU! That’s the first step to being a boss of your world and earning every bit of respect you seek.
Please tell us about HIRIE.
I’m the lead singer of Hirie. Self-taught guitarist, ukulele and piano player. I’m not necessarily killing it with those instruments but I do enough o get by! I write most of my music, but also stay open to other collaborators who can teach me better. I am through-and-through a songwriter. One of my faults (I hear!) is that I get very poetic and descriptive in my songs. But that’s really who I am.
I am most proud of the fact that HIRIE is all about positivity and good-vibes reinforcement. Our music provokes you in a soulful way. We all genuinely care about our listeners and what effect we have on them. I like to think the thing that sets us apart from others is our genuine ability to entertain to the max. If you’ve ever seen a Hirie show, you know what I mean! From dance moves to solos and everything in-between. We keep it REAL.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
“Mindsight” By Dr. Dan Siegel really affected me and my outlook on life as both a musician and mother. I highly recommend that book to anyone dealing with internal turmoil like I do.
“Women Who Run With Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés is also a huge inspiration. This book was given to me by a fan and has become something I practically sleep with.
