Today we’d like to introduce you to Verna Jaggers.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For over 25 years, I held senior leadership roles in multiple large and mid-sized corporations in San Diego, CA. I started my journey toward coaching executives in 2003 when I began coaching mid-level managers and those aspiring to be managers as a volunteer in cooperation with the humans resource department where I worked, I had always loved the coaching aspect of leading my teams but this work was very focused and the outcomes offered a much broader impact for the company. Eventually, I was given the full-time opportunity to coach senior leaders to encourage and support their teams to deliver awesome products that customers love.
As my passion for coaching grew, I decided to pursue professional certification and in 2015, launched my executive coaching company, Jaggersnharmony. My coaching methods help leaders develop deeper and more sincere interpersonal skills. I coach from my heart using integrative and mindfulness-based methodologies to connect with my clients building a foundation based on trust and mutual respect. As a result of working with me, my clients say they experience; more balance at work and at home, have a calmer and deeper compassion for self and others, and can more skillfully use tools and develop mindsets that lead to deeper self-awareness and improved relationships.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has been smooth in that I know I am doing the work I was put on this planet to do. That said, there have been struggles, mostly internal, but also in the not knowing how to market myself and how to ask for help when I need it. I was used to being measured by the performance reviews I received at work and found as I explored my own path the compass, I was used to using no longer guided me. I have been on a journey to fully embrace the beauty of being me.
I encourage other women who are just starting their journey to trust their intuition, to develop a support group and lean into it, and to be authentic and comfortable with who they are rather than trying to be what others might want them to be.
Please tell us about Jaggersnharmony.
I coach executive and aspiring executive leaders face to face and via video conferencing. My clients are located in the United States and in India. I am known for helping leaders bridge cultural gaps in their understanding of how best to lead their teams. I encourage vulnerability and the use of inquiry to establish trusted relationships with direct reports, peers, and customers. The work we do together influence personal relationships, it just can’t be helped. 🙂
I am also a trained teacher of Mindful Self Compassion. I find developing deeper compassion for one’s self and others makes it easier to understanding and lead people more genuinely. This practice helps tame the inner critic allowing the leader to lead from the heart.
I think what sets me apart is that leaders often think that mindfulness is too whoo whoo for the corporate workplace but after working with me, they know that being present and understanding the inner critic allows them to have more helpful responses to stressful situations and people. Their thoughtful and direct responses allow them to develop relationships and trusting productive environments.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think that when women develop a deep understanding of who they are and embrace their power the opportunities are endless. Using my work as an example, I am finding that my male clients trust me and share information with me; they are eager to develop the softer skills that make them more approachable and trustworthy in their teams. I believe bringing the feminine divine to the table without hesitation is powerful and much needed in the corporate environment.
