Life & Work with Wendy Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Alvarez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started when my little girl was born. I began planning her birthday party when she was around 6 months. I wanted everything to be perfect and make beautiful cookies for her and our guests. I attempted to make sugar cookies several times but ended up in a huge mess. After all my attempts, quarantine started and her party got cancelled. During quarantine, I gave up on the cookies and began making baguettes and different kinds of breads, then I moved on to making cakesickles. I enjoyed making cake sickles and small treats but it just wasn’t my passion. After months, I decided to give the cookies another try, I began researching all over the internet and watching videos. I began practicing every day and just giving cookies away to whoever would take them. It never crossed my mind to open a page and sell my cookies until my family, blue bear entertainment, friends and of course, my wife, encouraged me to do so. This is when Chipisweets all started. We decided to name it after our daughter Victoria, who we call “Chipi” as she has been my greatest inspiration. After only a few months, I have been receiving orders nonstop. I try to make every order unique and put my heart to every design I do. The greatest feeling is having a happy customer send me a message after they have tried the cookies, saying how much they loved them. This is truly what keeps me motivated to get better one cookie at a time!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle has been managing time and to bake and decorate my cookies while taking care of my 18 month old daughter.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make personalized, made to order sugar cookies. My cookies are known for not only being beautiful but they are also delicious, I get complimented a lot. I believe that everyone that is in this business has their own style and we should support each other.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I would say, how important it is to support small businesses. It is not only important to place orders but also to recommend to a friend or give out a review, this is truly what I think most people look for when they are shopping around for something in particular.
