Today we’d like to introduce you to A.K. Finch.
Hi A.K., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story has always been rooted in creativity, faith, and a deep love for storytelling. I am drawn to poetry, literature, and the power words have to comfort, challenge, and inspire. Over time, that passion grew into teaching English and the arts, where I’ve spent years helping students discover their own voices while continuing to develop my own as a writer.
Alongside teaching, I’ve worked to build a creative life centered on storytelling in many forms—novels, poetry, educational resources, and literary publishing. I am currently developing multiple fiction and nonfiction projects, while also leading and contributing to literary initiatives like Top-Shelf Literary Magazine and Top-Shelf Podcast. I have many creative ventures under the CopperMoon Production umbrella. Each of these projects is driven by the same purpose: to create meaningful stories and spaces where creativity, learning, and imagination can thrive.
Like many creative journeys, mine hasn’t been linear. It has included balancing family, entrepreneurship, teaching, and writing—all while continuing to believe in the quiet, steady work of building something lasting. Today, I’m focused on growing as an author and storyteller, creating work that resonates with readers and encourages others to pursue their own creative calling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people pursuing creative work, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing responsibility with calling—teaching, supporting my family, running small business ventures, and still protecting time and energy for writing. Creativity often grows quietly in the margins of very busy days.
There have also been seasons of uncertainty—financial pressure, questions about whether the work would ever truly reach readers, and the emotional weight that can come with building something slowly rather than seeing immediate results. Choosing to keep writing and creating in those moments required a lot of faith, perseverance, and a willingness to keep showing up even when progress felt invisible.
At the same time, those challenges have shaped the heart of my work. They’ve deepened my empathy as a teacher, strengthened my resilience as an entrepreneur, and clarified my purpose as a storyteller. I’ve learned that meaningful creative lives are rarely built quickly—they’re built through steady commitment, community, and the courage to continue even when the path isn’t clear.
Looking back, I wouldn’t remove the obstacles, because they formed the foundation for where I am now and the stories I feel called to tell.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a writer, educator, and creative entrepreneur whose work centers on storytelling, literacy, and meaningful connection through the written word. I write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction under the name A.K. Finch, with a focus on stories that explore mystery, faith, imagination, and the emotional landscapes that shape how people grow and change. Alongside my author work, I develop educational resources and literary spaces designed to help students and emerging writers discover their own creative voices.
Through Top-Shelf Literary Magazine and the Top-Shelf Podcast, I’ve been able to explore a belief that storytelling takes many forms—writing, poetry, visual art, film, photography, and music all carry the power to move and connect people. Under the broader vision of CopperMoon Productions, these creative expressions are celebrated together, creating space for artists and storytellers across disciplines to share meaningful work and inspire community through creativity.
What I’m most proud of is not just any single project, but the steady commitment to building a creative life over time—continuing to write, teach, and create even in seasons when progress felt slow or uncertain. That persistence has shaped both my voice and my purpose.
What sets my work apart is the way it bridges multiple worlds: classroom and creative studio, faith and imagination, literature and everyday life. I’m deeply committed to storytelling that invites reflection, hope, and curiosity, and to creating spaces where others feel encouraged to tell their own stories as well.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice is simple: don’t give up. The people who ultimately succeed are often not the most talented or the most connected—they’re the ones who keep showing up day after day. Creative work is built through consistency, not bursts of inspiration.
Keep creating even when you don’t feel like it. There will be seasons when the work feels quiet, unseen, or uncertain, and those are often the moments that matter most. Every page written, every idea explored, and every small step forward is part of something larger being formed over time.
I also wish I had known earlier that progress in creative life is usually slow and steady rather than sudden. Growth happens beneath the surface long before anyone else can see it. If you stay faithful to the work, keep learning, and continue creating, the path will begin to unfold in ways you couldn’t have planned.
So keep showing up. Keep making the work. And trust that persistence, more than anything else, is what carries creative dreams into reality.
