Life & Work with Alexis Garrett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Garrett.

Hi Alexis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Before establishing my company, I earned my stripes in commercial real estate design and in the trenches of a revered interior design firm, becoming fluent in the nuts and bolts while laying down my own aesthetic foundation.

As a fifth-generation San Diegan, I interpret “early California” into projects, be it Santa Barbara-style residences or contemporary farmhouses. With found treasures, layered fabrics and unexpected whimsy (repurposed roller rink floors, vintage surfboards) all of my homes are created uniquely for families to flourish.

“I want rooms to be used, fabrics to be worn and I want life to happen in the spaces I design.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I started my business while I was a mom of two growing boys and my husband was working full time. It was a challenge, but I slowly and very thoughtfully brought in some great people to work along side me, and I was fortunate to have amazing clients.

Fast forward to today and my husband has joined the company full time, and we have hired more people and still have great clients.

It hasn’t been without challenges, but it’s hard to complain. We are so thankful to everyone who has helped along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We focus on helping families thrive and we take our mission seriously. We are fortunate to be invited in to one of the biggest moments of a family’s life, building a home, and we believe we can guide them in ways that make it an amazing process with a terrific outcome that they and their children’s children will get to live in. I’m not sure if that sets us apart, but it’s what we believe in!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories related to my craft as an Interior Designer and business owner are moving everything around in my room every few weeks, trying out new layouts and new approaches and playing with the allocation of space. I didn’t realize it then, but I was preparing myself for my career as a designer.
