Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Diordytsia.
Hi Anna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
began my professional journey in Ukraine, where I received my formal education as a hairdresser in 1993. From the early stages of my career, I actively pursued advanced international training, studying at Vidal Sassoon, Toni & Guy, Enric Llongueras, and French academies including Dessange.
I became a prize winner at national hairdressing championships in Ukraine, receiving some of the highest scores from professional judging panels. In the Creative Haircut category, I earned top placements, and my work ranked among the top five masters in the country in the fantasy hairstyling category. My professional level was also recognized by international judges, including Richard Ashford, former Creative Director of Vidal Sassoon.
I later won first place in a professional competition organized by Zerkalo magazine. Following this achievement, my work was featured in leading Ukrainian industry publications, including Scissors magazine and other professional media.
Education has always been an essential part of my professional path. Together with my partner, I founded my own hairdressing school, where I trained hairstylists and beauty professionals. Over the years, I educated a large number of students, sharing both technical skills and a professional mindset.
Later, as a salon owner, education became a core part of my business. I personally trained and mentored all hairstylists who worked with me, ensuring a high professional standard, strong technique, and a consistent approach to quality and client care.
Teaching others has been a natural extension of my career and an important contribution to the development of the next generation of professionals.
During the development of my own business, I opened a salon that grew into a team of more than 20 professionals. I later expanded by opening a second salon, transforming it into a full beauty space offering cosmetology, nail services, and spa treatments. During this period, I combined the roles of stylist, art director, and business owner and was honored with professional recognition as “Person of the Year” within my salon organization.
In 2022, due to the full-scale war and the occupation of my hometown, Kherson, I was forced to leave Ukraine and relocate to the United States under Temporary Protected Status.
In the United States, I obtained my professional license in California and began a new chapter of my career. I opened a beauty studio in Sausalito, near San Francisco, together with my sister. Today, we operate as a family beauty project: I specialize in hair artistry, while my sister focuses on manicure, pedicure, and makeup.
Alongside my salon practice, I actively collaborate with the California fashion industry. I work with teams from San Francisco Fashion Week and Fashion Community San Francisco, have participated in runway shows in Los Angeles, including projects inspired by the aesthetics of Versace, and have taken part in Miss California events.
Today, my professional work in the U.S. includes advanced haircuts, modern coloring techniques (highlights, AirTouch, balayage), chemical perm services, hair extensions, and hairstyling for weddings and fashion shows.
My journey represents over 25 years of international professional experience, entrepreneurship, and continuous growth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been smooth. It has required discipline, continuous education, and inner resilience. In the early stages of my career in Ukraine, the main challenges were intense competition and the need to build my professional level independently through constant training, practice, and participation in championships.
Building and managing my own salon business became another major challenge. Leading a team, growing the company, making strategic decisions, and simultaneously working as both stylist and business owner required not only technical expertise but strong leadership and management skills.
The most significant challenge came in 2022, when the full-scale war and the occupation of my hometown, Kherson, forced me to leave Ukraine and rebuild my life and career from the ground up in the United States. I had to obtain a new professional license in California, adapt to a different system, language, and culture, and reestablish my professional network from scratch.
Each of these challenges strengthened me as both a professional and an individual. They shaped my resilience, adaptability, and commitment to growth under any circumstances.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed hair stylist and beauty entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience building and leading successful beauty businesses. My expertise combines creative artistry with strong operational and leadership skills.
In Ukraine, I built and managed two salons, developing a team of more than 20 professionals. I was responsible for strategic growth, team development, service standards, pricing structure, and brand positioning. I created internal training systems to maintain consistent quality and ensure high professional standards across the team.
I also co-founded a hairdressing school, where I trained and mentored numerous stylists, contributing to the professional development of the next generation of beauty specialists. Education and structured growth have always been central to my business philosophy.
After relocating to the United States, I reestablished my career from the ground up — obtaining a California license, rebuilding my client base, and launching a beauty studio in Sausalito. Today, I continue to grow my brand through high-level services, fashion collaborations, and strong client relationships.
What sets me apart is my ability to integrate creativity with leadership, operational discipline, and long-term business vision. I approach beauty not only as an art form but as a structured, sustainable business built on standards, consistency, and continuous development.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
As a professional with a European background and experience that began in Ukraine, I see strong opportunities for growth and refinement in the U.S. beauty industry over the next 5–10 years.
The European approach to hair emphasizes technique, structure, and long-term hair health. I believe the American market will continue to move toward healthier and more refined coloring technologies, such as AirTouch and advanced highlighting systems, that protect hair integrity while delivering natural, sophisticated results.
I also see significant potential in the development of haircutting culture. A strong haircut is the foundation of any look and requires deep knowledge of shape, balance, and structure. I believe more emphasis should be placed on advanced cutting education. When modern coloring techniques are combined with strong cutting skills, it allows for true personalization. This is an area I am deeply passionate about, and I integrate advanced cutting techniques into every look I create.
Personalization will become the key focus of the industry. Clients are moving away from identical, trend-driven styles and toward looks that reflect their individuality, lifestyle, and natural features. This includes embracing natural texture, movement, and even gray hair, rather than trying to hide it.
The future of the beauty industry lies in natural aesthetics, conscious choices, and respect for each client’s individuality. In the coming years, professionals who combine European-level technique, continuous education, and a personalized approach will define the next standard of excellence.
