Life & Work with Ari Puguh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ari Puguh.

Hi Ari, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was a child, I am always curious and tried to observe how an individual could change their character completely during the transition of their childhood to adulthood. When I see a full-grown person, sometimes I wonder how their childhood was, what happened during those times and what made them become who they are now.

This fascination and curiosity with child culture have brought my purpose on bringing positive values and hopes to children so when they become adults, the world could be filled with kind & loving human beings.

Colours and creating child-like graphics and illustrations are my passion and things I am interested in. Back then, I didn’t know one could pursue & be an expert in such a career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been ups and downs as many people thought working for a child culture field is considered childish and only in the context of toys & books. But I believe child culture is broader than that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work has been focusing on child culture design, so far I’ve been producing creating games, educational e-learning content, books, drawings, sculptures & paintings that are distributed internationally. I am seeing this goal as a long term goal and wanted to specialize myself in this field.

Next year, I’ll be going back to school to pursue my master’s of Fine Arts program in Sweden. I am really excited to expand my child culture works and combine them with more solid academic researches.

Right now, I am doing consultancy work for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific and mentoring the artists & creatives in Pacific Region.

I see my work as a growing process, therefore I do not want to limit myself to specific mediums or topics. More works to come!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Bringing joy & smile to people. I know it sounds cliche, but I found the act of giving is something beautiful and always needed anytime-anywhere.

Giving in this context could be anything, it doesn’t mean it has to be a material or in a physical form. But rather more of bringing joy and share love to others.
