Life & Work with Betsy Peila of Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Peila.

Betsy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello my name is Betsy I was born and raised in Carlsbad. My journey has many paths. I will start in the early 80’s. I went to Maui as a 17 year old taking on the world. Did some doula work and learned massage. I then became a mother and took that responsibility full time. Moving forward after 25 years on Maui, I landed back in Carlsbad to be with my sick mother. In 2012 I stumbled across the tiny yoga studio opened by Alana Bray. Yoga Bound was in a sweet little house that had wood floors that creaked and maybe 11 people could fit. From there I did my YTT with Andy and Tamara Totman and was one of their first graduates and employees at Vinyasa Arts in Cardiff.
In my training I learned about Reiki and was mesmerized! I needed to know more! I then did a 5 year Reiki training with Bonnie Card Weingarth who channels dolphins and whales. During this time I completed my Holistic Health Practitioner course. Then After training in Reiki for 5 years I became a Reiki master and now have led over 15 training sessions. I recently completed my hypnotherapy training with Brian Festa with Heartwise Hypnotherapy.

My passion is providing a safe healing environment using intuitive massage, reiki, sound healing, hypnotherapy, and breathwork. No 2 sessions are the same as we are always evolving and in need of a different approach at the moment. I love to show up in service and divine purpose. Currently I am working out of Yoga on State which is like a home. I am holding space wednesdays at 4:30pm with Gabby Traconis leading Sound & Reiki experience. Rob Mendez owner of Yoga on State has created a nurturing environment that has allowed myself and others to create and expand our visions.
You can find me at Yoga on State most days in and out but steadily on Fridays and Sundays 10-7. I would love to meet you all, stop in to say “hi” get a hug or just feel the vibe!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No path is smooth the whole way especially after 59 years! But i will say always follow your heart and trust your intuition.
My husband of 22 years left when my 2 boys were teenagers. So as a mother you put your head down and do what you have to do to make ends meet, pay the bills and put food on the table. Cleaning houses in the early mornings till noon then working full time at costco. Then I found out how to trust the process and started my healing  journey through yoga! Subtly shifting into a different workload of healing body, mind and soul holistically.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have many hats and love them all. I guess what people say is they love my touch and hugs and I have to say the love/spark always starts in my heart and the love/energy goes down my arms into my hands. I like to feel people and where they need care and nurturing.
I’m an intuitive masseuse, reiki and sound practitioner, hypnotherapist, doula, yoga instructor and good listener. What sets me apart? I think that I allow and surrender to what’s happening in the moment for each client. There’s no sequence that I follow, I’m present for what shows up open to be the vessel of what each person is in need of.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I feel you need to find a mentor or community that’s a definite yes, as with all things to be decided in life. Always follow the frequency of your own heart. Aloha
