Life & Work with Brittany Rucci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Rucci.

Hi Brittany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started as a child, when I was younger, I loved nothing more than to fall into my head and draw all the interesting things that I could explain better on paper then I could with my words. This was my hobby all my life. So naturally it’s all I would like to do as an adult. After a while of living my life as a barista, I decided it was time to make the jump and follow my long-desired passion of being an artist.

I left my comfortable coffee shop management job to do caricatures at the circus! For years I learned to be comfortable drawing live people and growing my passion and career. As much as I loved it was time for me to grow more and extend into graphic design. Doing Layouts, logos, illustrations, and photo editing/restoration. With learning so much in so many different artistic directions naturally, I figured… why not learn more…

Living in Las Vegas you are surrounded by the entertainment, lights, and of course…the slot machines! I wanted to be part of that team creating those gorgeous flashing colors and characters. I made it my goal to get into slot machine art. I am proud to say that is now my destination and I couldn’t be happier. With ample to learn and room to grow I create what I sought out!

This is my story thus far! I plan to stay where I am at for a while. While growing my MisBrit Designs business on the side. Maybe my next step will be turning that into my full-time job. It’s all about the journey and I am eager to see where it goes from here

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! It was bumpy and hard. If I wasn’t so persistent and eager then I don’t know if I could have. I took many risk, not all of them were winners but what else are you to do then to move on, learn. then figure it out.

Leaving a job where I was comfortable and just decide to drop everything to start a new route with no idea what my end goal was but to “be an artist”… that could be pretty vague looking at it now many years later.

It took a long time to distinguish my goals and create a road map to get there.

I always disliked the term of the starving artist. Artist shouldn’t starve we are creative and the world needs us! Plus… I love to eat. So, to figure out how to make enough money to do so at the beginning of my career then I do have to say it was a rough start.

It’s a learning process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For my day job, I pride myself in being an artist for slot gaming, as for my side hustle I work to build my personal brand. Misbrit designs which was created 4 years ago and it is me as a designer creating and selling art that feeds my soul and others with similar interest. While also offering caricature, logo, and illustrative services. I strive to add more services to my brand to offer

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think it’s luck as much as it is hard work and dedication. Sometimes the cards don’t play in your favor but you can always redraw your hand. If I don’t get something I work for the first time then I tell myself that it just wasn’t the time for me to take that venture or to honestly step back and evaluate if I am truly ready with my current skill set. I think it’s important to step back and really look at what you are capable of…we aren’t 100 percent perfect at everything we do but the room for growth is always there. I strive to make myself valuable in the industry with hard work and constant growth
