Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Mcdonald
Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small rural town in Oregon along the Mckenzie River, and like many who lived there taking photos on hikes, at the lakes, the river, and so forth was natural because of how scenic, and beautiful the area was. I look back and realize living there alone sparked an interest in photography that i didn’t fully recognize at the time. Once i got my first camera several years later I took photos as a hobbyist documenting my kids growth, family trips, and day to day visions I wanted to create. I even did maternity photos when my dog Lulu was pregnant! That was hilarious, and so much fun. I was always afraid to take the professional leap into photography because I had major imposter syndrome, and would doubt if i was good enough. I started taking photos of my friends, and their kids, and eventually took to social media looking for a model to photograph, and the rest is history!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning it was tough. I was learning how to communicate with clients, as well as building a website that was true to me, and what i wanted to offer my clients, which was constantly evolving the more i learned. Fast forward a couple of years, and I think one of my biggest challenges is finding a balance between running my own business, while raising young children.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im a professional photographer in Southern California, and I specialize in family, and maternity photography. I shoot candid- lifestyle photos aiming to capture natural moments, and expressions of people living their lives. I think what sets me apart from others is being truly in tune with my clients needs. Each client has a different vision, a different story ,and i want to explore, and bring it to life. I like to capture details that provoke an emotional response bringing us back to that moment in time.
What makes you happy?
What makes me most happy in my career is the response i get from my clients when i deliver a gallery. Their happy tears, thank you’s, and continuing to return for another session with me has all made me feel like I’m right where i belong. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without them, and I am forever grateful.
