Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Rankin
Hi Cindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Holland and enjoyed an idyllic childhood before moving to California at the age of 16. I attended Oceanside High School, and after graduating, I ventured into modeling and managed a “Wallpapers To Go” store. At 23, my career took a creative turn when I became a makeup artist for film and television.
I honed my craft at the Studio Makeup Academy at Sunset and Gower Studios in Hollywood, where iconic shows like Married with Children and Who’s the Boss? were filmed. For six years, I worked on the CBS/USA TV series Silk Stalkings. During this time, I also married and became a mother to two wonderful boys. While freelancing in the film industry, I decided to pivot to real estate when my youngest son faced a health challenge. In just two years, I sold 31 homes, but I missed the vibrant energy of the entertainment world.
Eventually, I returned to the film industry, working on national commercials, print campaigns, and even spending a few weeks on the set of Top Gun: Maverick. Twelve years ago, I became a single mom, and now, with my children grown, I’ve returned to real estate. I find immense joy in preparing homes for sale and guiding homeowners through the process. It’s been amazing to rekindle my passion for real estate while still staying connected to the creative world.
My life is a dynamic blend of the two careers I love. Just last week, I closed escrow on a condo in Chula Vista and then headed to Borrego Springs for a shoot, exploring stunning off-road scenery with an incredible crew.
I feel deeply blessed to have raised two amazing sons—Kevin, a paramedic firefighter, and Nick, who is pursuing college while working at a well-known restaurant. Being a mother is my greatest accomplishment, and I’m grateful for the journey that has brought me to this exciting new chapter in life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a single mom and working freelance has been a journey filled with both challenges and resilience. Balancing the unpredictability of freelance work with raising two boys on my own often felt overwhelming, but I was fortunate to have people who offered support along the way, from friends stepping in during tough times to mentors guiding me professionally. However, not all experiences were positive; I encountered assistants who crossed boundaries, undermining the trust I placed in them. Adding to the struggles, I faced a melanoma diagnosis that tested my strength and resilience, and the loss of my parents brought immense grief. Despite these hardships, I found a way to overcome each obstacle, drawing strength from my childhood and the genuine kindness of those who truly cared.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work ethic became my anchor; I committed myself to showing up every day with determination and focus, even when the path wasn’t clear. Looking back, I’m proud of how I persevered, staying true to my values and believing in my capacity to overcome.
How do you think about happiness?
My family, our animals and home make me the happiest.
Nature, horsebackriding and swimming also fills my spirit.. you can usually find me bare feet in my garden or kitchen when I’m home.. I hope to travel more this year and spend more time with friends.
