Life & Work with Dan Frick of Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Frick

Hi Dan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Formula 400 is a heavy hitting all original rock band from San Diego, California. The band’s music can be described as heavy groove laden with dual guitar and vocal harmonies, and songs that constantly strive to break the mold of conventional song writing. The band originated by founding members Kip Page and Dan Frick in 2018 and with Ian Holloway and Tommy Eftimie they released their debut album Heathens in 2020. After rotating through a few drummers Lou Vout joined the band in 2020 while the band crisscrossed the country on a few short tours to the east coast and Texas where they played several festivals including Ripple Fest and Maryland Doom Fest. In 2022 the band released their second album Divination which ranked #2 out of 40 new releases on the May Doom charts in 2023. The album was summarized as “straight-in-your-face…a blend of raw stoner and hard rock which always seems to be on the point of exploding like a barrel of powder”. Shortly after release, Ian Holloway decided to leave the band and was replaced by Alex Zambon. The band is currently writing music for their third album and playing local shows in the southwestern US. Be on the lookout for a new release in late 2024 that showcases the new band chemistry and strives to push the boundaries and build upon their previous two releases.
Formula 400 is:
Dan Frick: Guitar and Vox
Kip Page: Bass
Lou Vout: Drums
Alex Zambon: Guitar and Vox

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it hasn’t been very smooth for us. We’ve gone through multiple lineup changes. 4 drummers 1 guitar player and 1 bassist have all parted ways with the band since our start in 2018.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a professional in my day to day work I am an aerospace TIG welder and certified (CWI) weld inspector. I have been welding since I was in my early twenties, where I started my first welding job at NASSCO, building Navy ships. I have since moved on to building parts for aircraft both passenger and military.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me success is a mindset. I think as long as you put your heart and mind into what you are doing you will always be successful.
