Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Apodaca.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It’s been a journey! I’ve worked many trades, from construction to barista, overnight photojournalist, to human resources assistant. My interest include pretty much any hike in San Diego & enjoying a good concert! Let’s not forgot a good Padres game. Nerdy interests include anime, Star Wars, and most comic movies. But probably my biggest passion is FOOD. Whether it be me cooking or going out & enjoying all of the local favorite spots. Okay, we can throw and drink specials too!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always struggles in life, but it’s our perspective in viewpoints that help us get through that. Some of my biggest support are my closest friends and family. Financially things have never been easy, but working from the ground up, like most of my family have, has proven to be a focal point for me. Even to this day, I’m nowhere near where I’d like to be financially, but my life still feels full with those I keep around me. Currently going to college, working full-time for the county of San Diego, as well as completing my orientation to become a full-fledged longshoreman.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I’m a civil servant, I work in the HR department for the county of San Diego. Although, on the side, I’d like to say that I specialize in cooking and sharing foodie vibes with my foodie fam here in San Diego. I’ve met some amazing people online through Instagram and more recently an adventurous app called Franki. What initially started out is me posting on Instagram dishes that I like to cook turned into me being invited out to share food with other foodies. My previous photography and videography skills from filming the news really comes in handy when taking food photography and videos. I think what sets me apart is my extremely charismatic and outgoing personality, while at the same time being understand to read the room and be empathetic and know how to communicate with almost anyone. Plus, I’m just that damn fun.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I think the most important lesson is to trust your instincts and do your own research. To not blindly follow the media and or government.
