Life & Work with Danny Darko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Darko.

Hi Danny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My Children’s entertainment career began in a prison alternative work camp. I have been writing poetry and music my whole life. I had gotten off the path of life due to addiction and a life of crime.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been met with many challenges. I am a heavily tattooed felon in mainstream society. The system isn’t designed for people from my cadre’s success.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a children’s book author and entertainer. Last we spoke I had just become a member of the Los Angeles Recording Academy. As a recovered addict and reformed criminal, I do not know of many people who have come from my background and achieved this level of success in the Kindie world (or mainstream). September 17th I was a panel speaker at the Children’s Music Network annual conference for diversity and inclusion. I was honored to be asked to speak. This is something I never imagined would happen. I recently rereleased my Children’s books. Greigh Blasts Off and a new title Together With Two. A simple tale of diversity and inclusion. We recorded a song on pronouns to accompany the book on our last EP Together With Two of the same title. I have also been busy background acting in my spare time. I have my first speaking part on an upcoming indie movie. I cannot divulge the title of that just yet. I have worked on a few other shows also. I can’t speak on those until they are released also.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve learned a lot from building an entertainment career from less than zero. I was apprehensive about how I would be received coming from the lifestyle I had and the look I still have. If you believe in what you are doing and don’t let anyone dissuade you from your dream there is nothing you cannot accomplish. If you do want to succeed you cannot waste your energy on anyone that doesn’t believe in you. I am my own best cheerleader. And my therapist also (but she is paid for that).
