Today we’d like to introduce you to Devaughn Burns.
Hi Devaughn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
OK well, I’m currently incarcerated in California been gone for 7 years. From all of my shortcomings, I’ve come up with my clothing brand Brainfood Brand. Which the name comes from the coping skills I’ve learned from being in here to overcome these shortcomings. This brand is for the underdogs and unheard, just to motivate people they can do ANYTHING through any circumstance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a hard road, but I’ve always kept in mind it’ll get better I’ll get through this storm. Not being able to get hands-on with the brand has been the hardest, also not being able to promote how I would love to has also been hard.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve always been known for my personality and perseverance, some call me a knucklehead but I feel I was just misunderstood. I feel like what’s set me apart from a lot of people is my story, the willingness to overcome my lowest part in life and come up with this brand. But my pain and ambition is what’s made this come true. I specialize in listening and applying what I’ve learned into my everyday life to better not just myself but also ones next to me. I set in my cell and literally sketch out the designs and pitch them to the team and we come up with the designs. It’s definitely not a one-man team
What were you like growing up?
Always cracking jokes, making everyone laugh a real class clown lol. I played football and ran track growing up loved to dance and just smile through it all.
