Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ J.RICH.
Hi DJ J.RICH, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a music lover & quite frankly, music has always been there for me. On every occasion where I needed support, my headphones and iPod were always the first thing I turned towards. I never thought about being a DJ until I started experiencing the local scene in my hometown & started seeing all the underground talent around. I remember one event where I saw this DJ, and I asked him how we got started & he told me how much he loved it. I told him I wanted to try it out. Once I started getting a feel for it, I got the opportunity to perform live for the very first time & fell in love!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m very fortunate in my DJ journey to have the support that I do, but just like everything in life, there are always going to be struggles or hardships. Being as young as I am can cause struggle sometimes. The nightlife industry and especially the DJ industry are such male-dominant spaces that it can sometimes be tough to take steps forward. I always try to remember not to judge a book by its cover & put in the work to show everyone I deserve to be here!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently a DJ in Las Vegas, NV, born & raised! I love anything from tropical house to early 2000s pop music, rap, etc.
Many people in the city know me mainly for my R&B blends, but I recently launched my pop throwback party, Nostalgia. It’s been so fun to create a space for anyone and everyone to come & sing their hearts out to their favorite pop anthems!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s hard to say, only because I come from such a large industry of nightlife and music being born in Las Vegas. I’m not sure where it will all end up, but I hope that within the next 5-10 years, I can see my industry getting a lot more diverse and open to newer sounds. I’d also love to see some more women do their thing in the industry as well!
