Life & Work with Erica Jazmeen of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Jazmeen

Erica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a model, but about three years ago I decided to get serious about my passion and stay consistent. Once I committed to pursuing my modeling career, I had no idea how or where to start but I knew that being a model was what I wanted to do, so I became very passionate about figuring it out. I started with researching the industry and began to build a strong portfolio. I began networking with different photographers to focus my efforts on great relationships and networking and then branched off from there. Recently, I started my path into runway modeling, and I must say it was an amazing experience so much that I’m now addicted to it. I plan on staying consistent with both print photoshoots and runway modeling. The goal is to break barriers and to keep hustling until I don’t have to announce myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I’ve run into a variety of obstacles while pursuing my modeling career. Models and photographers work quite close together, but unfortunately, not all of them are very professional,
setting appointments and changing last minute or being inappropriate during sessions. There is a lot of competition in this industry as well. You put a lot of time and effort into attending casting calls and networking events without any guarantee that you’ll be chosen to work. Networking events can provide great connections and opportunities, but they are not without the empty conversations or empty promises as well.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for my modeling and recently, walking on runways. I’m most proud of the confidence I have when I step in front of a camera and walk on a runway. I would say the thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to embrace my individuality while staying true to myself. I’m constantly evolving, but I never lose sight of what makes me unique, whether it’s my look, energy, or the way I carry myself. I don’t see it as competing with others; instead, I focus on bringing my own style and vision to every project. I work hard, stay grounded, and keep growing, knowing that my authenticity will always be my greatest asset.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for finding a mentor would be, don’t be afraid to ask for help and or ask questions. There is always someone willing to mentor you, you just have to ask for help. What has helped me the most when it comes to finding a mentor, is define your goals, network actively, leverage social media, seek out common interests, be specific, and show initiative.
