Life & Work with Flahdaeh of Oceanside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flahdaeh.

Hi Flahdaeh , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally from East Side Long Beach California “LBC”, I come from a dark past that includes gang ties and a long criminal history. While in prison I started to write rhymes to past the time. In doing so, I took my gang name Yung “Half Head” and turned the Half Head around and put it together to spell Flahdaeh. When released from prison in 2011 I had ambitions to become a recording engineer so I enrolled in a music production course online at Full Sail University. As I was perfecting my craft engineering I offered free services to aspiring artists and friends that like rapping. Realizing many of the people I gave this opportunity to weren’t serious, I began to record myself. The love for music and the fact that I could actually hear and see myself being successful in music, I then began to take the artist role serious. I released 3 mixtapes Flahdaeh mixtape volumes 1,2,and 3 from the years 2011-2014. I also started creating my own album art and visuals. I then released a few singles before release my most renowned project to date, a single entitled “Handle It” featuring Snoop Dogg. This single was released on Doggystyle records in 2016. From there it’s been all gas no brakes. In 2019 I moved to Oceanside California for work and met my brother from another mother “Skinny Rhondrale” (Skinz). I then released a joint album with Skinz entitled Chu Up. Me being founder of my independent label “Chuy Gang” and Skinz being founder of his independent label “ Go up” is how the title became. Through this journey we teamed up with Kogniak and from there a team was formed. I released two albums after Chu Up, “Chu Story” and “3:16” along with numerous singles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t and still is not a smooth road. This is a process of trusting self and those around you. There are always road blocks. For instance after the release I did with Snoop I had numerous people reach out for videos, sync opportunities, etc, and the A& R that was working with snoop at the time put a banana in the tailpipe. Those opportunities never flourished. The same song I signed a deal with a television commercial and since I only own 80% of publishing they pulled back. The last incident was with “The Game”. He hit me up because he was running a promotion and we agreed to get him on a verse to a song I was producing. We agreed I paid him 4500 dollars and then crickets. This was very disappointing but, none of that stops my drive

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I engineer, mix and master. I creat album art, write video treatments, edit visuals, and project management. I most proud of my work ethic. What sets me apart from others is my unorthodox flow and approach to music.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be perfect your craft but more importantly learn the business. Protect your music. Invest in yourself.
