Today we’d like to introduce you to GoGo Golf.
Hi GoGo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
What started as a lighthearted search for a solid 2v2 scramble quickly turned into something
much bigger. Gogo Golf was born in the minds of Scott and AJ during countless rounds of
random matches with fellow golfers. We began to conceptualize more competitive matchups
while keeping the focus on having a good time on the course. Scott and AJ have both drawn
from their entrepreneurial experience to help guide the growth of Gogo Golf. As business owners
outside of the golf world, they’ve been able to apply lessons in branding, operations, and
community-building to shape Gogo Golf into more than just a weekend hobby. Their background
has played a big role in laying the foundation for what Gogo Golf is becoming.
Fueled by a shared love of the game and a desire to connect with like-minded players, we
launched an Instagram page in hopes of finding other teams ready to tee it up. The response?
Better than we could’ve imagined.
Gogo Golf has hosted weekly “Sunday Showdowns” at courses across San Diego County and
beyond, bringing together golf enthusiasts from various communities. And while our handicap
hasn’t exactly improved, we believe we’ve built a community of people who value connection
with a side of athletic competitiveness. We’ve met incredible golfers, forged lasting friendships,
and created a new weekend ritual rooted in camaraderie, competition, and love for the game.
As our community has grown, so has our vision. Gogo Golf has naturally evolved into a business
built on sharing our appreciation for the game. From weekly cash prize contests like “Guess This
Course” to fun giveaways and curated golf content, we’re building something that’s as much
about the culture as it is about the sport. Our goal is to promote this kind of accessible,
community-driven golf experience to more local enthusiasts and turn our passion into something
tangible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While there’s no shortage of competitive players, one of our biggest challenges has been
reshaping the traditional perception of golf as a sport rooted in prestige and exclusivity. Over the
last several years, we’ve seen a wave of young, passionate golfers from all walks of life looking
to enjoy the game in a more relaxed, welcoming way.
We’ve taken what some might still see as a “snooty” sport and turned it into something fun and
accessible, even for beginners. For us, it’s all about enjoying the game. Our form might not
always be perfect, but we’re here to grow, learn, and refine our skills while having a great time
on the course. The real challenge is finding others who align with that same mindset. People who
love the game but don’t take themselves too seriously. Luckily, we’re finding more of them every
weekend.
As we’ve begun turning Gogo Golf into a business, new challenges have come with the territory.
We’re diving into merch drops and weekly giveaways, which has brought a steep learning curve
with inventory management, sourcing quality gear, and fulfilling orders while staying true to our
brand. We want every piece to reflect the laid-back, competitive spirit our community connects
with.
It’s also been a creative challenge to stand out in the saturated world of golf content and social
media. We're constantly finding new ways to engage our audience and spotlighting our Sunday
Showdowns, while keeping things authentic and fun.
We hope to continue expanding our reach beyond San Diego. In fact, we’ve even caught the
attention of challengers from outside the country, which reminds us just how limitless this can
be. Gogo Golf may have started as a weekend hobby, but the community we’re building is
something special, and we’re just getting started.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Gogo Golf is a San Diego–based golf community and lifestyle brand founded by Scott and AJ, two entrepreneurs and parents who turned a shared love for golf into something much more. What began as a casual search for 2v2 scramble matches soon evolved into weekly “Sunday Showdowns,” bringing together golfers of all skill levels for laid-back competition and genuine connection.
Through our Instagram platform and growing network, we’ve created a space where golf feels fun, inclusive, and approachable.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
What some people might not know is that Gogo Golf began thanks to a school connection. Scott
and AJ met when their kids were in the same kindergarten class. What started as casual chats at
school pickup quickly turned into weekend tee times and deep conversations about golf,
community, and creating something new. That shared love for the game and a desire to make it
more approachable became the foundation for what Gogo Golf is today.
One of the things that makes this partnership work so well is the yin and yang dynamic between
us. Our personalities are different, but they complement each other in a way that creates balance
and energy. That contrast allows us to approach ideas, content, and community-building from
multiple angles, ultimately shaping a stronger and more authentic ecosystem. We bring out the
best in each other, and that collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
Gogo Golf didn’t just grow from a love of the game. It grew from real friendship, family
connection, and the belief that golf can be more than just a sport. It can be a lifestyle, a
community, and a source of joy for everyone involved.
