Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Shaw.
Hi Harry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Massachusetts and lived in Leominster, MA most of my life. In 1994 at age 22, I joined the US Marine Corps which ultimately brought me to Coronado, CA for Naval Gunfire training. The first time driving on the Coronado Bridge leaving the airport, I knew California was where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. After Coronado, I was stationed at Camp Pendleton for the remainder of my tour doing various tours throughout my 4 years on active duty. While in the Marine Corps, I grew a passion for computers and wanted to pursue a job in technology but where, I had no idea. Once discharged from the Marine Corps, I ended up homeless for about 3 months, sleeping in my car and fellow Marines barracks rooms. Fortunately, some fellow Marines let me stay on their couch to avoid any more nights in my car. Finally, after months of looking for a job, I was hired as a Customer Support Engineer fixing data storage systems. Upon receiving my first check, I took all of it and put it down on an apartment in Vista, CA. Thankfully, I had enough for Ramen noodles and Mac & Cheese for the next 2 weeks. I worked 12–16 hour days to learn the various products to be the best support engineer I could be and avoid homelessness again. Through hard work and dedication, I quickly rose and started making money I could only dream of prior. As my career moved forward I had the opportunity to help build companies from the ground up at 3 different startups. During which time, I got married to my beautiful and supporting wife. She is the core of why I work hard and make things happen when others may find it more difficult. In the middle of my Technology career, I challenged myself again and went back to school full time, earning a degree BS in Business Management. I worked in the technology industry for over 20 years. At some point I realized I wanted to have my own business, be my own boss and that’s when I decided to go into Real Estate. I knew this would be a challenge but a very rewarding career. I get to run my own business, help people get what they want, and most importantly be happy. Morale of the whole story would be with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Never give up on your dreams no matter how long they take you to get there. I fight every day knowing I will continue to challenge myself but in the end, be happy of who I have become.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road at all. I went through a broken home moving out of my dad’s house at 15 from relative to relative. Joined the Marine Corp to be homeless for 3 months after an honorable discharge. Life can be challenging but you gotta keep pushing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a Real Estate Agent who works anywhere in Southern CA. My Real Estate career focus is helping getting families sell and buy homes in all markets from the lower-priced to a million-plus. I am mainly known for my outgoing personality and work ethic. I am most proud of being a US Marine and going to college. I have a sincere passion for motorcycles, I love the open road on my Harley and the adventures it brings. I believe that I have a big heart and one of the most honest people you will ever meet. My word is my bond and I truly care about people and their happiness. I always put others before myself.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I cry a lot, I cry at the movies, I cry when watching commercials, I cry when others are sad, and I cry at church. I am a very sensitive man that wants the best for others.
