Life & Work with Heidi Sparks of Coronado Ca.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Sparks.

Hi Heidi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ten years ago, I was working corporate at a contract defense company in a cubicle, feeling bored and miserable with my job. Deciding I needed a change, I signed up for beauty school that week while still working full-time. After graduating from esthetics school, I started a home-based esthetics business nights and weekends, offering facials, waxing, and spray tanning to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and word-of-mouth clients. I did this for roughly 4-5 years. Then in January 2020, our family moved closer to my husband’s work, and through my tax lady, she had known of a place for rent which that’s how I discovered a space for rent in Coronado, where my current treatment room is located. I signed the lease on March 1st, 2020, and then the world shut down. Thankfully, I still had my corporate job for the next few more months to keep me afloat, which helped with paying the space rent and of course bills. However, it was super challenging not being able to take clients, and I wasn’t eligible for loans as my business was too new. Fast forward to 2025—my business is thriving, and I’m so grateful for all my clients and their support. I now only offer facials, sugaring hair removal and have my own skincare line.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, going through the pandemic was really challenging. I seriously thought about packing everything up in my treatment room and putting it into storage. It was tough, as at one point, money was going out with no income coming in. And of course, being self-employed definitely has its challenges. I fell like my brain is going 24/7 always thinking how to make my business better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in performing custom facials and helping people feel their absolute best inside and out. I love pampering and relaxing my clients, while also transforming their skin through tailored treatments. What sets me apart is the personal touch I bring to every service. I don’t just treat skin . I care, listen, customize, and try to create an experience that’s unique to each person.

I’m especially proud of my skincare line, which I personally design and some I formulate. Every product is made with intention, and I love helping people find the right combination of products that work specifically for their skin needs and their lifestyle. My passion is making people feel confident, cared for, and radiant.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Starting during the pandemic felt like bad luck at the time. Still, I survived those tough moments by staying grounded in faith. I see challenges as learning curves, and even the hard times have helped me grow and keep moving forward.
