Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Storton.
Hi Jeremy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I grew up in La Mesa. Even though I don’t live in San Diego anymore, every time I visit, I feel like I’m home. While growing up I spent a lot of time in the ocean and eating out at great restaurants with my parents, my uncle, and my Godfather. These early experiences laid a solid foundation to the work I do as a waterman, media producer, and especially, as a beer and food professional.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hah! There’s no such thing as a smooth road. Pursuing media production, storytelling, and pursuing beer and food as a career seemed so indulgent and irresponsible. So, I tried doing a lot of things that made sense on paper. None of it felt right. I tried real estate, working at a fire department, medical, and a slew of other random mini careers. All of them contributed to my knowledge and skillset. I resisted being a creator and a beer professional until I couldn’t resist any longer. As soon as I embraced what I felt called to do, everything got better. It’s still a long and tough road, but it’s a good road and it’s worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My freelance mixed media business provides educational, promotional, and inspirational story-based content in the forms of written articles, photography, videos, and audio. I’ve worked with companies around the US, but I specialize in beer, food, and water sports. I’m also becoming a freediving instructor and am looking forward to teaching and taking people on trips to help them reflect and refocus. I can’t wait to incorporate breath training, diving, spearfishing, food, and beer appreciation to transform people into better versions of themselves.
I’m really proud of the awards I’ve won, the high-profile clients I’ve worked with, and being one of fewer than 200 people in the world who’ve attained Advanced Cicerone® or higher. But, while these things stroke my ego, what stokes me out most of all is to actually get to share my passion and purpose of the craft and culture of beer with professionals in the beer industry.
What matters most to you?
I’m a Christian. Serving my faith and others is my highest level of motivation. It still sounds ridiculous to me, but long ago I prayed and begged to know what my path ought to be. The answer was to tell stories and study beer. My goal is ultimately to help people have great relationships and experiences. I use beer, food, and water sports as tools to accomplish this.
