Life & Work with Jonny Mansour

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Mansour.

Hi Jonny, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jonathan Mansour, and I am a Multi-National Champion, International Gold Medalist, and I am currently ranked the #1 lightweight boxer in the United States Of America. I am currently on the USA team and am looking forward to remaining on Team USA to go for Gold in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. I was born and raised in San Diego, California. My all-time favorite accomplishment it was when I fought in 3 tournaments back-to-back to back within a 1-month period. I won the state championships, flew to Ireland, and won Gold for USA, then won the National Golden Gloves. I also got the best boxer award at the Golden Gloves! I started boxing when I was 7 years old. My uncle was heading to the boxing gym and I was swimming at my grandma’s house with all my cousins and family members. I then told him I wanted to go with him and work out. Keep in mind that I was only seven years old! The boxing gym was at a ranch in Lakeside, California. It was inside of a big tent right in the middle of all the dirt. When we got to the boxing gym, the first thing I did was head to the weights and workout station, hardly even knowing what I was doing, but was just excited to workout. My uncle walked over to me and said “no working out, I just want you to sit ringside and watch.” I at the time was frustrated because I wanted to work out, but as I sat and watched other people box, I instantly started to find interest in it. I felt like it was something different, something that not many people in my community do. I told myself right then and there that I love boxing, and I want to become a champion someday. My uncle came up to me when it was time to go back home, but before we left, he said to me “do you want to start boxing?” I right away said yes and he said “perfect come in tomorrow at 5 PM”. Since then, I have never missed a day. I do not drink, and I do not smoke. Boxing is not only a sport, it is a lifestyle, and I am determined to become a world champion. My ultimate goal is to turn professional after the 2024 Olympics. I have always dreamed of being under the bright lights in a full-packed arena, and especially with the support from my hometown of San Diego California, I know I can do it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had the hardest road ever just to finally become ranked #1 in the nation. I was not born talented, but my hard work defines where I am today. I always faced the toughest challenges in my earliest stages. For example, each time that I would compete in the past with such little experience, I always had the luck of facing the number 1 boxer on the very first day of the tournament. But fighting the best in my early stages is what made me the best. Another tough challenge I had faced was that my family did not want me to become a boxer. It’s just not something that my community did on a normal basis, especially with boxing being a very dangerous sport. My parents feared that I would get hurt, and my mom hardly used to watch my fights because she didn’t like the feeling of watching her son fight. I used to have to cry just to go to National Tournaments, but it got to a point where my parents started to notice how hard I was working, and how much I was accomplishing. They knew I was never going to give up. Now, nobody supports me as much as my family. My parents are now so involved in what I do. My uncle Jack always told me that one day, it is all going to click, and here we are today representing Team USA and preparing for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Elite boxer who is ranked #1 in the nation at 132lb weight division. My all-time favorite accomplishment it was when I fought in 3 tournaments back-to-back to back within a 1-month period. I won the state championships, flew to Ireland, and won Gold for USA, then won the National Golden Gloves. I also got the best boxer award at the Golden Gloves!
