Joseph, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Joey Sandoval, a passionate food enthusiast from the sunny shores of La Jolla, San Diego.
I started Joeythefoodiesd after I graduated from SDSU. When I was dating my gf at the time, now fiance. I always found myself exploring TikTok and Instagram for fun and romantic date night spots. Especially when the holiday, anniversary, and birthdays approached. Since I was always exploring new cool places for fun date ideas and cute drinks for her, it gave me the idea that I should start an account to share some of my favorite spots.
To get to where I am today, I did several things. 1. Outreach to food influencers who are doing exactly what I plan on doing, to learn from them. 2. Watching many YouTube videos to understand Algorithms and how to rank better 3. I studied similar food influencers videos to figure out what exactly is making the videos perform well. 4. Posting consistently
I’ve made it my mission to uncover the hidden gems and local treasures with in our food and events scene.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth. It’s expensive to go out to trendy restaurants, editing videos can take a lot of time, frustration with videos not performing well at the beginning, and managing my joeythefoodiesd account while working full time at my main job. Learning to build habits and creating blocks of time dedicated to certain tasks has been key. Making as much content from one activity has been helpful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a food influencer that creates content for local San Diego restaurants, events, and activities on both Instagram & TikTok. I specialize in voice-over videos that walk the customer through what it’s like to dine at a specific restaurant or what to expect at an event. I am most proud of the awareness I have been able to bring to hidden gems and local restaurants. I love that I can help both locals easily find amazing spots and help bring awareness to businesses/events. What sets me apart is my personal branding and positive reviews to shine on a restaurant/ events best features and items.
