Life & Work with Joshua Escobar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Escobar.

Joshua Escobar

Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hello! Split Image started in mid-2019; we’re from Murrieta in the Inland Empire. We started in the aftermath of a previous band called DVT. My guitar player and drummer started Split Image with me. We used songs created during DVT and continued evolving the sound to what it is currently. We released an EP “Torrent Of Illusion,” from songs recorded during the Pandemic 2020. Since then, we’ve released many singles and many Music Videos since with our most recent being No Way Out. Currently, we are a 3 piece.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no. Because of the nature of magic and having others involved in creating music together it is, and it isn’t because when everyone is on the same page it is but like any relationship one either grows together or grows apart. We’ve gone through many lineup changes and so far, we’ve been a 3 piece, but we’ve got so much done. In the long run, everything is worth it because we’re actively learning and through that, we become better than we were before. The main takeaway is to be grateful for every experience.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In the band, Christian is very familiar with booking shows, scheduling, and compiling songs together; Joey, my guitarist is very good with studying algorithms, he’s also very good with placement along with Christian. He’s also added various types of songs structures from different genres to integrate into our music. I am more of the ideas guy, I come up with merch ideas, as well as song meaning and ideas. I’m very good with creativity as the rest of band is in our different ways. As for Split Image I believe we’re proud of our blended sound it has elements of Crossover with a hardcore sound but punk roots. We’re proud of the many music videos we’ve done. The friends and connections we’ve made along the way and are very grateful! I’d say our sound because we’ve refined it so much, we started out sounding more metal but have always been heavy and since we’ve added synths, so we’ve come a long way but are dedicated!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I always lived in the state of CA. I was born in Long Beach, but I had moved around a lot, and in the late 90’s I lived up in San Jose. Mine was being exposed to video games at a young age along with horror movies. Something about the time of enjoying N64 in its prime along with the vibe that was the late 90’s, was definitely one for nostalgia. Also, food was different then and drinks, I am still into video games and horror movies and have expanded my tastes. I’d say another was being exposed to thrash from VH1 my firsthand was Megadeth, the peace sells music video. My tastes skyrocketed with Thrash and Punk from that point on in middle to high school. I’ve made many friends since then.
