Life & Work with Juan Castro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Castro.

Hi Juan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started with my brand since 2017 as an idea between a friend of mine and I, we wanted to wear our own clothes with our own personal essence, ideas, and our creations. In the first season of the brand, I managed to sell all the shirts that were manufactured. Later, we made cell phone protectors and caps. We did very well with that too. We were like this for a year or two until we decided to stop the production of the brand due to investment problems; as in any business, it is a risk that has to occur, we are not exempt from that, so we had to deal with that problem… I decided to start; I paused the project because I began to dream big, you know? My dream at that time was to come to California and start a new personal life with my brand, so I moved to San Diego, CA. I keep in mind that the well-known brands are in California, to mention one, we have Supreme or Off White, Fear of God, many that I am just a seed in the cornfield. But even so, I decided to risk everything I had in my hometown and venture out… I started again in 2021, and with a few small delays in production, I returned to release a new 2021-2022 season with fresher and simpler designs; my idea it is first that they recognize the calligraphy, the name and that it is recognized for its simplicity and minimalism in each garment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m still on the road; I’m one of the people who doesn’t reach the goal while you keep learning. And the path is to always learn from each step I take.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am just someone with a passion and ideas in mind. I really like creativity; I define myself as someone who does not like to think much; I like more to have the idea at that moment and create it if it turns out well excellent, and if it does not turn out well, then what I keep going but stuck, I don’t stay, I really like my brand and since I also continue learning photography, I combine it perfectly, they are two things that I am passionate about, and I think they can go hand in hand

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Going out with friends to play soccer in the street, sometimes we would go to the rivers to spend time with uncles and cousins and my parents…
