Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Warren.
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got my start as a graphic and product designer. For many years, I ran my own freelance graphic design business and contracted with companies both large and small. Most of my work involved designing consumer products like gift packaging, craft supplies, home decor, stationery, and apparel. I absolutely loved the creative process involved in making beautiful products and had a dream of someday launching a line of my own.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been long! I had the idea for the Looksee Board back in 2018, and began making them at home, then selling them locally and to friends and family. Just when we were about to take the next steps to grow the business, I found out I was expecting my fourth child! A few months after our sweet son arrived, the pandemic hit and life was upended. At the end of 2020, we ordered inventory. Covid created delays in production and shipping, including a shutdown of the factory, creating some of our felt items. It has required oodles of patience and perseverance, but we’ve launched- the website is live, we’re fulfilling orders and have a full line of fun products to offer customers all over the US!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a head-in-the-clouds and feet on the ground type. I’d say I’m at my best when in a state of creative flow, but I’ve always had a strong pragmatic streak that serves me well as a business owner. I’m very proud of the way that Looksee Studio encourages creativity, connection and celebration. Being able to offer a product that helps our customers celebrate important moments, mark milestones, and beautify their lives feels really good.
What matters most to you? Why?
Creativity, connection and celebration- that’s Looksee Studio is all about. Our products have made my home life better in so many ways, and I want to share the joy that it has brought me with our customers. I also care a lot about creating products that help reduce waste, and Looksee Boards are fantastic in that regard because one board can be used to create hundreds of different signs!
