Today we’d like to introduce you to Kensley Barber.
Hi Kensley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I remember getting my first ever camera, a VCam Now when I was 9. It was a video camera, but I used it for photos. I would set up scenes with props and ask all the neighbor kids to let me take photos of them. I didn’t go a day without taking photos until I got into high school, where I would occasionally take creative breaks. Photography has been a lifelong love of mine, and I have now been doing it for twenty years, which feels so surreal.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in a creative field, I think a lot of artist feel that their work has to be absolutely perfect before releasing it to the world. This belief will sometimes stop you from wanting to making art at all, wanting it to be perfect. This is my biggest struggle when creating art sometimes. I have learned to make the best with what I have at the given time, and that has been such a great help, and now I feel less stressed when creating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer that specializes in creative portrait photography. I like to get to know my client’s personality and then take photos that directly reflect them. I make sure that we have lots of fun on the photoshoots to ensure they look as relaxed and like themselves as possible; it is never a dull time! This can be done with any type of portrait; family, kids, couples, headshots, anything! If you are looking for photos that will tell a story and capture your energy, then I’m definitely the photographer for you.
