Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Svec.
Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started PitchKit as a way to help novice campers access the outdoors in a way that’s both sustainable and affordable. Most people only camp a few times a year, if that. Purchasing expensive equipment and having to store it for most of the year is a big investment. If you’re not a fully dedicated camper, there may not be a ton of value in buying all the gear.
PitchKit was launched to be a happy medium for this dilemma. We wanted novice campers to have a great experience outdoors – without having to make a huge investment. Additionally, the first few camping trips for a newbie usually have a degree of trial and error on what equipment they need (and don’t need). Our kits eliminate this trial and error phase. Each kit has everything a camper would need for a nice front country adventure – even the little things that are easy to forget.
At the end of the day, we want people to see camping as a fun way to engage with mother nature, not a logistical headache.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. PitchKit fills a void in the market and helps get people outside. The idea could potentially help thousands of people become more in-tune with mother nature – which is a big motivator. As with most things in life, the biggest struggle comes down to time. PitchKit is a side hustle for all three of us. Finding the time in the startup phase to really kick things into high gear has been tough. Fortunately, we’re at an exciting point in this business. The word has gotten out and demand is starting to grow. Soon, we’ll be at a point where we can bring people on board to manage the grunt work of running a rental company. The future is very bright!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My role in PitchKit mirrors my 9-5 job as a marketing strategist at a local agency. I am in charge of developing our content assets and increasing our online presence. I like to think of myself as a balance between a creative writer and a technical marketer. One of my biggest accomplishments in this department was writing our all-inclusive camping gear rental guide (on our website). This content asset has played a big role in our search rankings – and there is much more in the pipeline.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as being able to help others improve their own quality of life – that was a huge motivation to start PitchKit. There is something refreshing about spending a few days enjoying the outdoors. This experience provides clarity and helps strengthen the human bond with mother nature. If I can help others achieve this with PitchKit, I’ll have left a positive mark on the world.
