Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Wooten.
Kylie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started skateboarding when I was little; I would do it off and on until COVID hit, which is when I really started picking up the sport; I would skate every day with my brother; it was like an outlet for my mental health, and something fun for us to do. I have been skating consistently for about 4 years now, and I am doing it for the fun and joy of landing new tricks, meeting new people, and just being able to have an outlet for my mental health. I’ve worked with a bunch of people in the skate industry and met some of my favorite skate idols, it’s crazy because I’m now friends with a lot of them that I looked up too growing up skating. Skateboarding brings community, joy, and fun; that’s why I love it so much.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Skateboarding for sure is not something you can just pick up in a day, you have to trust yourself, do it for the fun otherwise there’s no point, it’s a good way to help your mental health and depression. It’s helped me a lot with that, and I’m grateful it’s something I love to do every day. Some struggles would probably be staying motivated to get better, and try tricks I may think I can’t do, but staying consistent and motivated will get you there.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a creative; I love creating seeing points of views people kinda take for granted day time day, I love photography, capturing a photo of a moment that is now a memory to remember; I love art, painting, going out of my comfort zone for new art ways, and skateboarding, being able to do something that helps my mental health, and that I enjoy, I love being competitive and pushing my boundaries. I’m most proud of trusting myself in skateboarding, I was able to model for vans, and be a part of a lot of cool things. I feel my energy and motivation to keep going, doing what I love every day makes me different and stand out in today’s society…
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would love to give credit to everyone who has and still is motivating me and pushing me to do what I love every day, to be confident in what I do and stay inspiring people and the younger generation. I would love to give a shout-out to my mom and dad, who support me in what I do and all my dreams and accomplishments. For sure, the people around me, my friends whom I have met through skateboarding, love everyone I have met throughout the way, and also shoutout to Poseidon Foundation, a non-profit that helps the youth follow their dreams and push limits to what they can do in their life.
