Life & Work with Langston Grant of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Langston Grant.

Hi Langston, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At the age of two, my family and I attended the National Singing Quartet Convention of America, an organization to which we belonged. During the convention, I was placed on a table to sing “This Little Light of Mine” before an audience. Although I had always been a churchgoer, I began my singing career at the tender age of two and have continued to sing all over ever since.

My current musical trajectory can be attributed to my upbringing. Throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to serving and singing for God and within the church community. This commitment has afforded me numerous opportunities, including collaborations in various venues, with renowned artists and individuals of exceptional musical talent. I have cherished the experience of utilizing my divine gift and talent.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the course of my career, I can say it hasn’t been easy, but I have demonstrated resilience and determination in overcoming various challenges. While there have been both periods of success and setbacks, I have consistently persevered. During my younger years, I actively participated in numerous concerts and events every weekend. However, as I aged, I received fewer calls, and I became discouraged about the reasons behind this decline. I was uncertain whether my performance was declining or if audiences were growing weary of hearing me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an emerging recording artist, I am pleased to announce the release of my debut single, “Just Church.” My musical journey encompasses gospel music, while simultaneously engaging in community service for diverse reasons. While singing is my primary platform, I am also pursuing aspirations in ministry, funeral directing, and embalming.
After several years of dedicated service in church, I was licensed as a minister in 2020. Since then, I have traveled many places, sharing my faith through singing and preaching. Furthermore, I am actively pursuing an associate degree in mortuary science, having spent over a decade in the funeral industry at a local funeral home where I have served. In 2021, I obtained my license and certificate as an embalmer apprentice.

I’m most proud of overcoming every obstacle through dangers, toils, and snare. I can attest to the scripture that says no weapon formed against us shall prosper. I’m thankful for my endurance.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most valuable lesson I have acquired throughout my journey is to persevere and maintain my course of action despite any challenges or setbacks.
