Life & Work with Lindsay Adams of Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Adams.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love of photography began when my parents gave me a Polaroid camera for my 4th birthday. I’ve always loved the quiet beauty of a still photograph and the memories that they conjure up. As a teen I remember spending hours creating scrap books with photos of me and my friends.

As I got older I would dream of someday being able to call photography my career. Hoping it would bring me a life full of travel and connection with interesting people. Their families. Their businesses. Their homes.

I worked in advertising and post production, producing commercials and branding assets after college for several years until I had my second daughter and the pandemic hit and the hours and travel became too much.

When I found myself with more free time all of a sudden I started offering family lifestyle portraits to friends and quickly realized I could embrace this opportunity and shift career paths.

Through word of mouth my clientele grew quickly and I’ve been so lucky to call myself a photographer for the past 5 years now, capturing children’s portraits, families, content for small business and interiors and yards for designers!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been nothing short of adventurous! Learning how to structure my business, how to use all the different softwares, how to price my work and stand my ground has been a challenge but through it all it has been worth every minute because I truly love what I do and I love nothing more than delivering a gallery that brings my client so much joy whether it’s of their kids or the business they’ve worked so hard to create. It’s just the best feeling to know that what I do is being enjoyed and loved and appreciated!

Luckily I’ve had many incredible mentors and friends to help me and to learn from throughout this journey so far and I can’t wait to see where the next 5 years takes me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a creative at heart. A dreamer. A creator. And I’m lucky to call myself a photographer these days.

I’m most proud of my ability to make clients feel at ease in front of the camera and to capture them not in an expected way but truly as themselves. So when they look back on their photos they see their personalities shining through and remember vividly that time in their lives. Creating memories is what I love to do and I’ve been honored and thrilled to have so many clients tell me that their experience working with me was easy and fun! That is always my goal. To have clients look forward to their time with me and feel confident, knowing I’m there to capture their true beauty no matter what season of life they are in.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think I’ve been lucky in my career because every step of the way I’ve been surrounded by creative and talented people who have inspired me to push myself and believe in my talent and work towards my dreams.

It took years of hard work but I always feel lucky to have that support from family and friends and an incredible husband who has been there to carry the financial weight while I grew (and still grow) my business. He encourages me to know my limits & worth, stay true to my values and not to undersell myself financially or creatively.
