Today, we’d like to introduce you to Marc Hansen.
Hi Marc, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started writing songs when I was about 22-23 and never stopped. I joined the Navy at 24, but I found the desire to make music was what was on my heart, so I decided to pursue that instead of a career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is the struggle of wondering if you are any good. With that, there is the struggle of wondering if you’re wasting time. It doesn’t pay much to make music unless you’re doing VERY well and you’re spending a lot.
And when you’re not making money in music, you need to find another way. That can pull you away, and you must fight for a balance. Add to that any commitments to work, family, or other interests… those are the struggles.
Finding balance is hard. I have a wife and four kids and must maintain a job to support them. It is what it is.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My band, Electric Mud, just got offered to open for The Rolling Stones, so we’re pretty pumped on that!
That’s the best thing that ever happened to us, and that sets us apart. I enjoy the albums we’ve made. I think we’ve made some great songs. I think I am a decent songwriter, and I guess that belief is what drives me.
What were you like growing up?
I wasn’t very interested in sports. I was very active and outside all the time, but I was also very drawn to movies, stories, and music. I made a lot of lists and liked to organize things, too.
I would often draw and follow a path as an art major. Eventually, I switched to history.
