Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Bruce.
Hi Matt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started reading Tarot cards as a teenager, during a time when I was developing a fascination with all things magical. As I grew, Tarot existed in the background and accompanied me on my journey, but it wasn’t the primary focus until recently. For many years I’ve been a professional magician and had a career as a spokesperson for a major non-profit, so my attention was focused on balancing those two paths. Then suddenly, a life-changing accident took my ability to walk, and for nearly two years, I was in recovery. During that time of doubt, loss of personal power, and surrendering to the long process of healing, I rediscovered Tarot. I reached out to my old teachers, found new mentors, studied many books, and dug out old notebooks I had from years ago with so much information I forgot I had. With the help of my teachers, mentors, and fellow practitioners, I’ve been able to create new and exciting ways to read cards that engage our subconscious and intuitive gifts in a way that nobody else has done before.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Recovery was a major hurdle, but without it, I may not have had the tools or the courage to follow the path I’m currently on. My accident provided a major shift- I couldn’t perform as a magician anymore because I couldn’t even stand. Rediscovering my connection to the Tarot and other divination systems allowed me to still connect with others and bring magic into their lives, all while remaining seated. This deepened my practice and affected me holistically. I realized that the accident changed my external world and how I related to it, while Tarot changed my internal and spiritual self, helped me realize new goals, and how to harmonize different areas of my life. Once committed to this path, new connections started to emerge, bonds were formed. My practice exploded and I went from reading cards at one place in Los Angeles to working at seven different shops from Salon Draven in Rancho Santa Fe to Mystic Museum in Burbank and doing readings at special events all over Southern California.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Tarot, Numerology, and Rose Readings. Each of my readings are unique, and I always put the focus on empowering the person who has come to see me. This involves intuitive exercises that help them tap into their subconscious and see their own potential future paths, but also more transformative exercises and rituals that literally change their dreams. I share a gift with each person who sits at my table- whether it’s a list of lucky days coming up on their calendar or a scroll with their own intuitive visions sketched out and realized.
What I’m most known for are my Rose Readings. The Rose Reading starts with the selection of a rose from a bouquet and ends with a dream ritual. The whole reading takes an hour and it’s a winding journey through many modalities, breathwork, visualization, and the goal of connecting the person to their higher self. Using the rose and a chart known as the Vitruvian Square, we’re provided a plan that gives the person confidence and clarity moving forward. This is a deep reading experience and often gets very emotional for people.
My background as a magician provides me the opportunity to step out of the traditional sphere and engage with people in ways that other readers never have. This allows me to create new experiences that impact people deeply, and I’m proud to provide something special for the people who come see me because each of them are special and, honestly, they deserve it.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
A lot of people are looking for guidance, especially after Covid. We’ve gone through a lot collectively and are finally able to emerge from our shells and reconnect with those around us. Numerology tells us that relationships, reunions, and even distancing ourselves from people who we’ve outgrown, or are causing us pain, is a huge focus this year. This often manifests itself as moving to a new home or revitalizing the home you have! As we advance closer to 2023, our awareness shifts inward as we try to focus on our own needs after such a tumultuous time. While each of us are on our own paths, these trends should become apparent no matter what we try to pursue. The following years are going to affect us deeply as we regain our composure and come back into a world of social interactions, romance, business endeavors, and travel, all of which were highly stifled during the pandemic. Many people will be looking for clarity and direction because a new world requires a new outlook.
