Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Gasia
Hi Melissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a travel content creator and blogger based in Los Angeles, who loves to share unique experiences and hidden gems in LA, San Diego, Orange County and beyond.
My journey began with my love for travel and creating videos, which initially started as hobby to capture memories with my friends. I found joy in researching and creating travel guides for my friend groups, while hanging out at a coffee shop. I would basically enjoy putting together a detailed PowerPoint presentation with our itinerary, complete with appealing photos, then send it to my friends to get them hyped up before each trip.
My very first job was at the airport checking in the travelers to their destination, then transitioned into website writing and eventually landed a Social Media Manager job that handled multiple clients. While I enjoyed my role as a Social Media Manager, I found myself drawn to the creative side and aspired to become part of the creator community.
Life’s too short so I started taking content creation more seriously. I dedicated my time to creating video content, watching courses, networking and pitching to brands, which led to exciting collaborations while capturing amazing destinations and experiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Being a travel content creator doesn’t offer the same stability as a traditional 9 to 5 job. It can get stressful when some months are getting back-to-back deals while other months are crickets. I would suggest to not put all your eggs in one basket and find other ways to monetize, and see what works to sustain your passion.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a travel content creator and blogger, who specializes in sharing the top attractions and hidden gems found in counties like Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Most of my content gravitates towards unique experiences, outdoor adventures and breathtaking views. I, also, stay up-to-date on local events and seasonal activities to inform locals and visitors about current things to do in the area. However, I am selective with what I share as I want to show experiences that I genuinely enjoy and would be happy to recommend.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
While I don’t have a formal mentor, I am fortunate to have formed amazing friendships within the content creator world. I met most of them through Instagram DMs, an event or a travel conference. I’m grateful for the genuine support we offer each other, as most people I met in this industry are willing to share their experiences and answer questions, just as I am. We should all strive to be a transparent community, sharing our knowledge so that we can grow together.
