Life & Work with Melody Larios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Larios.

Melody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The story begins when I was a little girl that watched Cake Boss and Cake Wars all the time; I was captivated by the idea of creating art that is edible. I began to pursue my passion for cake decorating during my teen years. I took a basic course, but learned a lot on my own as well. Later on, I got my bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Food Service Management, meanwhile, I worked at a few different bakeries where I was able to get much more experience.

Cakes by Melody started in 2017 as my little side business and has grown into much more. Now, I am fully dedicated to making my clients’ cake dreams come true, whether that be cake for a wedding or a special birthday celebration. I have not stopped learning something new every single day in order to grow and achieve excellence for my clients.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been and still is not a smooth road. There are all kinds of challenges that arise. For me, it took some time to find my particular style and the right clients for it at first. It can also be challenging to determine the correct amount of time it will take to make a particular design, resulting in some long, sleepless nights finishing up orders. Lately, I have been blessed with many new clients, but it had been a challenge to keep up with emails while carrying out the orders of the week and overall life. I could go on and on about this topic, but even though there are struggles, the outcome makes it all worth it for me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make decorated cakes and other desserts for all occasions. I specialize in cakes, frosted smoothly with buttercream frosting and decorated to match the event’s unique aesthetic. I am proud to be known for my particular style of decorating and to be able to work with clients to create unique designs that we all love.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It has been luck, or rather a blessing, to be able to have my parents’ support in starting my small business, and also to have amazing supportive clients that I can even call friends.
