Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael David.
Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I began my passion for writing around 2006 and never really stopped, beside the occasional “writers’ block.” After writing my first poem, I had my sister read it, and she thought I had something, and I fell in love with it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled a lot in the beginning with the type of poetry I wanted to write. I always worried about if it was too violent to share with others, and now, I’m confident in what I share. Even now, it still has its ups and downs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to call it psychological horror with a sprinkle of imagination. As far as what I specialize in, it’s hard to really say. I’ve done a few collaborations with other poets I met through Instagram, and I’d love to collaborate with other poets in the future. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come as a poet and never really let negative criticism get to me like it did in the past. I’ve been compared to other poets before; the truth is I never read iconic poets because I don’t want to be considered as a reincarnation of a past poet. If anyone is interested, they can read the poems posted on my Instagram page: Ziggythewriter to find what really goes inside of my mind.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Never try to imitate a style that has been done before; it’s a hard line to follow because there’s always gonna be the fear of being repetitive and bland. Keep writing, and there’s always gonna be someone that loves your work.
