Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Matejcek.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey started 10 years ago when I had a my daughter. My dream was always to be a very present mother and from that point on I did whatever I needed to do to make that happen. I knew that meant working for myself and setting my own hours. I’m a DREAMER and a creative so I got to work. I tried, failed, and thrived at multiple businesses over the years. (Coincidentally, one of those businesses being a hat business years ago that failed before it even got started)
Fast forward to 2023, after months and months of sitting on this incredible business idea. Buying supplies here and there but telling myself all of the reasons it could go wrong.. I finally decided to take the leap. I remember spending every dime I had on inventory. I had bills coming up and I had no idea how I was going to make this work. Filled with doubt but also hope. May 2nd 2023 my website went live and orders started flowing in. My friends, family, and followers were loving what I was creating. By the end of month one I had made back the 5k that I invested. Like I said before, I’m a DREAMER so I knew if I could make my investment back I could double it the next month… and that’s what I did. The spark in me and the passion for what I was doing grew bigger and bigger each month. Now I spend my days creating rad hats for rad people and connecting with the most awesome people. This is just the beginning for Electric Label.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! But the best things in life don’t come easy, right? Like I mentioned before, I had spent every dime I had to start this business and success was not guaranteed. That’s the risk you have to take to grow something great. I didn’t have any specific skills or talents when it came to this business. I just knew I had something great and that was enough to keep me pushing through the rough times! From learning how to build a website, how to press hats, where to source materials, and how to create designs. It was all a learning curve for me but are now things that come so easily to me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the girl that slangs the hats! I have a hat company that specializes in retail and wholesale. My hats are in stores all around the US (even Canada!) I took a huge step in my business this year and now offer in house embroidery and custom hat options. I’m a one woman show which means on top of being the visionary and making each and every hat that my customs wear on their head, I’m also the financial advisor, the customer service rep, and the social media manager (welcome to running a small business😜)
All of my hats are unisex but my business is primarily marketed toward woman. I’m building a space that’ll be your one stop shop for all things hats, whether you’re a business or an online shopper!
