Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Mulé.
Hi Mike, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I can talk for days, but we’ll keep it short.
I’ve been involved with music in one aspect or another since I was a teenager in my bedroom in a cul-de-sac in Pennsylvania. Playing in bands, going to shows, yadda yadda.
Moving to San Diego and getting involved in bands, some “traction” started picking up with two bands I play with. Doc Hammer and Alive & Well. After working with a few booking and PR agencies, and having a “this can’t be THAT hard (it’s harder than you think) attitude” I started sweet beef to help up and coming bands with drive and commitment hit the road.
Once the quarantine months hit it all changed. After realizing that touring might not happen anytime soon and margaritas for breakfast got old, Bradley Publicity took me under their wing and I got a taste of PR. Sweet Beef started doing PR for bands I play with as well as friends and bands/artists that we come across naturally shortly after.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is any road smooth? That’s the fun of it. Hit those bumps, change those tires, and apologize for fender benders when it’s your fault. All other broken-down vehicle puns added here.
There’s always something to learn. Big struggles are and will always be time management and, although you may believe in a band/artist, you can’t always work with them and give them the time they need. There’s plenty of options out there, or if you’re feeling really froggy, give it a shot on your own.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a person of many hats. Playing in bands/helping bands with PR and booking. I’m very proud of the bands I play with and the growth of musicianship, performance, and overall growth. I’m also very proud to work with bands and artists that believe in themselves and have the guts to give it they’re all.
What sets me apart from others is I’m too dumb to give up. Sometimes concussions help?
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you’re doing anything based on money, fame, attention, you already lost.
