Today we’d like to introduce you to Missy Szymanski
Hi Missy , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Missy is the owner behind GOOD Yoga, is a native of San Diego and a devoted mother of two. With over two decades of dedicated practice and teaching in the realm of yoga, her journey has spanned continents and ignited hearts. The two most important aspects of her life are her family and yoga.
For the past decade, Missy called Hong Kong home, where she became an integral part of the thriving HOT yoga community in Asia. Her expertise extended beyond borders as she graced boutique studios, major corporate yoga centers and digital platforms in Asia.
In 2022, she returned to her beloved hometown of Encinitas, California, rekindling her mission to inspire and share the transformative power of yoga with her local community. It has been a lifelong dream for her to own a studio in the heart of downtown Encinitas. Her goal was to hire the best and most experienced teachers and create yoga center that is rooted in tradition, alignment and community.
Missy’s yoga journey is deeply rooted in her training with her first teachers, Bikram & Rajashree Choudhury, Emmy Cleaves and Jim Kallett, with certification in Bikram Yoga College of India since 2008. She further honed her craft through certifications in Alignment, Vinyasa, and Advanced Alignment Teacher Trainings while studying in Asia. She believes in the profound combination of the Hot 26+2 method and alignment/vinyasa styles of yoga.
Missy’s vast experience, profound wisdom, and unwavering passion for yoga render her a unique and cherished teacher. Her aspiration is to foster a vibrant community centered around yoga and holistic well-being, where every student can embark on their own transformative journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout her journey with her yoga studio, Missy has embraced challenges as opportunities for growth and transformation. Moving abroad was a pivotal experience that brought its own set of hurdles, including navigating new cultures, living far away from family and teaching hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds. These challenges enriched her life and teaching and deepened her understanding of world at large.
As a business owner, Missy understands that opening a yoga studio comes with its own trials and unexpected surprises. From logistical hurdles to renovation project deadlines, each obstacle has been a learning experience, reinforcing her determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite these challenges, she feels fortunate to have established her studio on Highway 101 in the heart of Encinitas, a spiritual landmark that has not only provided a serene backdrop for practice but also connected her with a supportive community.
Balancing motherhood with owning a business is of course a small challenge that many women can relate to. Missy strives to set an example for her two children. She believes it’s essential to show them the importance of following their dreams and pursuing what they love. Hard work becomes meaningful when it aligns with passion, and Missy finds fulfillment in creating a nurturing space where individuals can discover inner peace and strength through yoga.
Through it all, Missy remains grateful for the journey, knowing that every obstacle has contributed to her personal and professional growth. She views these struggles as essential steps in realizing her vision and fostering a deeper appreciation for yoga’s transformative impact on people’s lives.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Missy worked for a large fitness corporation (Pure Yoga) in Asia for 10 years before moving back to Encinitas, CA.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
