Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Conteh.
Hi Misty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My story right now is actually kind of unique. I’ve never really understood or known where I was going which is kind of where I’m at right now. I wouldn’t say that I’m stagnant, but kind of just going with the flow. I’m trying to be more present and enjoy life one day at a time as opposed to trying to take the reigns and control every aspect of my life. The universe has gotten me this far in life unscathed, so it’s time I started trusting the powers that be more. Career-wise, I don’t have a “dream” career and I’m not passionate enough about anything to start a business or become an entrepreneur. However, I do enjoy helping people in any way that I can which is what I’m doing in my current career. I find joy and peace in knowing that my impact on someone’s life could do them even an ounce of good. “Be the change you want to see in the world”, and that’s exactly what I’ve chosen to do at this point in my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the challenges I’ve faced for a long time in life is figuring out what’s next. I think if I did have a career or passion, it would be a lot easier for me. I’ve kind of always just gotten by in life, sometimes I feel as though it’s not enough. I think the societal pressure takes a huge toll on me as well. It’s like there’s this imaginary timeline that I should have all of these accomplishments by a certain age. Based on society’s standards, I’m not where I “should be”. When I was younger, I had my entire life planned out and you couldn’t tell me different. Now that I’m in my late 20’s, I’ve realized that’s just not the reality for me. I’ve still accomplished so much in my life, and I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t acknowledge all that I’ve done for myself. It might not meet society’s standards, but I’ve come to learn that as long as I’m happy that’s what matters.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I work for one of the largest travel nursing agencies in the country. My day-to-day is essentially preparing nurses to get ready to travel. I find joy in this because I’m helping these nurses who are going out into the field day and night to save lives. I appreciate all that they do, and I find solace in knowing I played a role in that. My background is in healthcare (dental field), and although I’m no longer on the frontline, I still enjoy helping on the backend just as much.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I just want to say that to anyone who’s struggling out there and doesn’t know what’s next or what their purpose is, you’re not alone. And just because you don’t have a 5, 10, or even 15-year plan, doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. If there’s one thing the pandemic taught me, it’s that tomorrow literally isn’t promised. Your life could quite possibly change overnight. Just take it day by day, as someone who struggles with anxiety, I know that’s easier said than done. Trust me, it’s something I deal with every day but baby steps! Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither were we. As long as you’re trying to better yourself each day, that’s all that matters.
