Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Halladay.
Hi Nancy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My design business was created after a time of great struggle in my life. My two daughters were grown and my time as a stay-at-home mom and non-profit volunteer was coming to an end. My marriage was unraveling and who I thought I knew myself to be (mom, wife, community volunteer) seemed to be undergoing some huge changes. It seems the most beautiful changes can come through the biggest hardships. I realized it was time to dig into my faith and get curious about the things that brought me the most joy. I attended a Bob Goff Dream Big Framework retreat in Waco, Texas in 2019 and a new fire of creativity was lit within. It was the perfect time to create a business that would help others find beauty in their lives through interior design, organization and decor.
Nancy Deanne Decor began in 2019 as an on-line home goods store and blog. In 2021, after the loss of my grandfather, I was inspired once again to dig deeper. I enrolled in the Interior Design Institute and received my certificate in Interior Design, as well as adding on a course to become a certified professional organizer. Creating peaceful spaces, not only inspired me but grew my faith as I depended on God to guide me through each project and client.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road; however, the rough patches are what challenged me to grow and go deeper in my faith. While I love comfort, it’s not during the easy times when I learn, search and refine myself. It’s during hard times and times when there isn’t a client or business coming in that you can choose to doubt and give up or dig in and learn a new program or skill to develop and expand your business. There have been a couple of opportunities in which I was able to design for a client that needed help but could not afford it. It’s a great reminder and litmus test to ensure I continue to do what I love simply for the joy of creating and not just for business sake. There are a lot of unknowns in business ownership and having faith that God will. provide the right client at the right time is a test of patience and trust that I am still developing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always believed that your home should be your safe place. A place where you can deeply relax and be at peace. When you walk through your front door, do you feel your body and mind unwind and release the cares of the day? That is a feeling I love to create for my clients (and myself)! Creating a cozy environment that allows one to be completely themselves is a beautiful thing. Clean and organized spaces which display family photos, special memorabilia from trips and family members is what set the stage for a home that invites you in and tells a story of love and a life well-lived. I am most proud when I can take a space that is disjointed and cluttered and transform it into a space with purpose and beauty.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest mentor is God. His creation of earth is amazing and filled with nature and color. Having something bigger than myself to depend on, pray to and put my trust in, takes the pressure off of me to be perfect and get everything right every time. My grandfather was also a special inspiration in my life. He lived his passions out loud – talked about them and would show you what he was doing and learning with such excitement. In his final years of his life, he could not get out and do the things he loved – hunting, fishing and hiking. Instead of sitting around he bought an old Ford Model A and began fixing it up. He had the best time! Not only did he learn how to repair and drive it, he joined a Model A Restorers Club and began driving his car in local parades. His excitement for life, learning and meeting new people was infectious and reminds me to live my life the same way. When one road starts coming to an end – don’t stop! Find a new road and keep going.
