Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Chung.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story began when I was a street photographer from my hometown, Portland, Oregon. One day, I would see amazing locations around Oregon on Instagram. I didn’t know Oregon had amazing sceneries, so I decided to take photos of landscapes in Oregon. I enjoyed it more than taking street photos, so I translated my vision from street photographer to landscape photographer. Later, I would seek inspiration from travel and lifestyle videos on Youtube. I was also a big film enthusiast, I would also be able to understand lighting, color theories, and compositions in movies which helped me get the observation using the right lights, colors, and compositions. I would get motivated to start creating videos. I went to LA to create my first travel video and when I look back at it, it was so bad. But I definitely know that I made huge progress from there to where I am. I skipped university to fulfill my passions. Now, I want to travel the world and create videos to inspire others. As well as becoming a director for Hollywood and inspiring millions. I still have a lot to seek into what the journey has to offer for me because a lot of my friends and mentors inform me that I am really young.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It will be a big no for me, it wasn’t smooth at all. I am deaf, 100% deaf. I can speak really fluently because of my ability to hear back in 2016 (It is really complicated). I would have been a filmmaker for famous celebrities, NBA teams, and bloggers. But that wasn’t the case because my communication was the main problem due to my hearing. I usually tell this to myself every single day, “If I wasn’t deaf, I would’ve had a smoother path.” That is my life now, I have to deal with it. I don’t want my disability to affect my career more, so I will do whatever it takes for me to be successful and passionate about what I love doing without any excuses.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do directing, cinematography, and photography with other specialties such as editing colors, lights, sounds, and transitions. I am known for doing travel and lifestyle videos and photos. I am most proud of how much I did to get to where I am right now and make my parents proud. My skills set me apart from others when it comes to having the all in one package ability to being able to direct, find a composition (cinematography), and the skills to take photos.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe that being a success in my book requires a lot of ambition, hard work, energy, and having the ability to never give up. If I can truly show those true characteristics, it will show anybody how much passion I have for what I love doing.
