RealXman, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has always been apart of my life. I remember running home after school and being glued to the tv reenacting the Usher videos I was watching. Along the way I realized my path was different as I was a Queer artist, and there was no real path for someone like me I had to create it. Fast forward years later, and I am proud to say that I write, perform and create the music I once dreamed of.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has had its ups and downs, of course as all good stories do. At the beginning my career, I realize just how hard being an independent artist was. Most people would try to add their two cents, guide you and even shape your sound. This was challenging because most people wanting to add input didn’t identify as queer. So my authentic feelings, and what I wanted to express to the world, were not being seen, heard or reflected in my work. It was when I decided to do exactly what I wanted musically, regardless of how I was felt, that I saw the world begin to fall in love with me and my artistry. I am forever grateful for that leap of faith.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist through and through. My artistry encompasses a wide array of skills and passions. As an artist, I love making music for the girls, gays, Thems and Theys. As a writer, I love writing for perspective in which I wish I had heard growing up. I typically say what others want to say, but it has been taboo or deemed unworthy/unlikely to be main stream. On top of the music, I love creating the visuals and the dances. Choreographing to my own songs has been a blast. And why stop there? I’m also an aerialist and a stilt walker so standing out, is some thing I do often.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future I plan to continue pushing my personal boundaries so that my art evolves with me. There are many fun songs, projects and visuals on the way and I can’t wait to share the magic with the world. So please stay tuned.
