Life & Work with Sandy Snakenberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Snakenberg.

Sandy Snakenberg

Hi Sandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Me. Sandy Snakenberg. Portland born. Mostly raised as a ward of California and Georgia in foster homes and institutions till joining the Navy 1979. Managed to have a good relationship with my biological family. A US Navy veteran. I’ve made a living as a Chef, speed skating and hip-hop dance skating athlete, sports model, functional conditioning coach, Olympic Weightlifting coach, and referee. coached speed, dance, general skating, and world record holder for the longest distance skated in a 24-hour period. I had my own gym in Singapore that was the first all-inclusive, including working extensively with those of special needs in the area of skating and conditioning. Now evolved as Bubbleologist, Artist, Entertainer.

Over 13 years ago, in Singapore, I discovered the magic of bubbles blowing them outside my gym. Over time and guidance from others of inspiration, I developed my own techniques and now have been performing professionally for over 8 years. I’m always experimenting with and perfected my own bubble solutions and equipment. My dedication to the art, science, and magic of bubbles has earned me the title of “Bubbleologist” by my teachers, mentors, and peers.

2017. I took on the persona as “Sandy, The Bubble Pirate”. Returning from Southeast Asia on The “Bubble Pirate World Tour”… mostly by bicycle with trailer performing along the way covering over 6,000 km of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand.  Having health issues I returned to an old home base. SanDiego. Now performing for events of all kinds from birthdays to funerals, and everything in between.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with any artist. I took a road less traveled. Which is not meant to be smooth. Though I am dyslexic, this helped me realizes my strengths while steadily progressing to better my weaknesses. But the journey is the reason. After 15 years, I left Singapore because my work pass was not renewed under my 13 year gym business. Sold what I could. Came back to San Diego with my loaded bike and trailer, $50 dollars in my pocket, and dealing with a life-threatening heart condition. After years of treatment and thanks to the doctors and support staff, my heart condition is for now stable.  I’ve managed to build this 501c3 non-profit social enterprise known as Bubble World Ltd. As a (for now) one man show it has been a steady but positive struggle. I have been lucky to have a great support structure from my friends as well as support for the communities I performed for. I am proud and grateful for what has been accomplished from the shared experiences I produce.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Bubbleologist which is a practitioner of the science, art, and magic of bubbles as well as a Proud member of AOIBA Association Of International Bubble Artist since 2019. I’m best known for my outdoor shows including Monster bubbles, Bubble Dragons, Bubble Attack, and the creator of the Bubble Pirate Show, which is modeled after my TEDx talk in Singapore. I have most recently developed a unique show I call B.A.D. (Bubbles after Dark). The roof of my van is a stage with over 40,000 lumen of lighting pointed towards the sky, illuminating the bubbles as they pass overhead. Fireworks without the fire noise of pollution. https://youtu.be/qiUSRhUi9Js

I’m also training to set a world record for the largest free-floating bubble both indoor and outdoor. My life is transparent. Anyone can google my name and see much of what I have done. As I know, there are not many Sandy Snakenberg’s on this planet.

Some of what you get with a bubble pirate bubble show

Over 13 years of bubble and performance experience.

Safe, clean fun for the whole family.

An experience that will last a lifetime.

My indoor shows are mostly tricks, from juggling bubbles to creating many different geometric shapes for audience viewing with some interaction.

My outdoor Bubble Pirate sets include…

Bubble attack, giant bubbles, monster bubbles, bubble dragons, the backup plan, roller coaster, foam party, bubble flurries, jellyfish, and weather permitting, more.

I always go for my biggest bubbles of the day for my last set of that day. Sometimes as big as buses.

Your kids are guaranteed to be clean and exercised. Just hose them down when you get home. My solutions are environmentally friendly, homemade food grade non-toxic, gluten-free, and vegan. The larger ones are, of course, higher calorie.

Below are some of my bubble accolades.
